Ever since I was at school in the 1980;s there a few boat clubs around South Africa. Alas as time went by many of these clubs disappeared. How ever there is one Club Of which I am a member and this club is very active. The club I am Talking about Is the Centurion Scale Ship Modellers base in Centurion, Pretoria.
I joined this club in 2005 and the first boat I took there was The 1/25 scale Pilot Boat the John Cox. The next year I launched another ship, the Swartye Zee on a scale of 1/72. On January 1st, 2008, the cargo ship, S A Alphen on a scale of 1/100 was launched. If your magazine is interested in articles of these models and the ship’s historys I will be glad to write some for your readers. We have a few members who have built some beautifull boats and these are sailed on a regular basis.
Anohter interesting fact about our club is that we are affiliated to the model steam engineering society whose members build and drive their steam engins on a regular basis. Any people interested in making contact with me or the club you are welcome.
Ps. I have the plans and moulds for the S A Alfen and the John Cox. The latter boat I am intending to make a kit which will contain amongst other items a full album of photographs of the ship as she was in 1983. the John Cox is 1 metre in length and the S A Alpen is 1,81 metres long.
