      Hello to you all,

For those of you old enough to remember the 575 yachts, maybe someone can help me find relevant articles, plans, instructions, mods, hop-ups, etc. I used to sail one of these with the Coventry MBC many years ago, but the boat was very badly damaged during moving house. Now I have acquired another, but it needs some TLC. Whilst I can remember some things, I seem to have forgotten most things! My present 575 appears to have much more ballast than I can recall but, as I know no different, I shall have to see how it sails. So I need some help, and would appreciate any help you can give.

          Hi Merlin,

The 575 was made by Duplex Craft Co. of Leicester, and later by Lesro for a short time, whilst the 590 was made by HFM. From what I can remember, both boats were Bermuda rigged, but the similarlity ended there.

I had to make new booms for mine, and merely copied the old broken ones. However, I changed the front boom pivot (formerly off the front stay) to one off the foredeck, and changed the standing rigging from nylon to wire with adjusters.

I am still trying to get hold of a copy of the original plans, mainly as a reference. Equally, I would be interested in articles about the 575, modifications, reviews, etc.

Anyway, many thanks for your reply.

          Ron

              Ron,

Were you able to find the information you wanted.  I bought a Lesro 575 about seventeen years ago, but never started building it.  It remained fully boxed since, but I have just retrieved it from the loft having decided to take up the model boats hobby.  I have the original instructions if they were what you are after.  I am new to the hobby, and may be in need of some advice myself regarding this model at some point if you are able to help.  I too would be interested in any information regarding the 575 (I believe there may have been a 575 club once).  Did you find any articles?

              Cheers,

              Jim

                Hi Jim,

Lesro bought out the Duplex Craft Co many years ago and, yes, there was a 575 Club at one time. The information I have received is that several 575s are still raced, although the racing appears to be mainly around the Sheffield area.

Nevertheless, I did get a great deal of help in the way of copies of articles that appeared in the model press at some time, and I am quite happy to share them with you. They mainly involve modifications and/or improvements to the original design, the most important of which seem to be to replace the concrete keel with lead. This lowers the CoG so the boat is much more stable. Also, replace the standing rigging with wire – I used 20lb trace wire – and make rigging adjusters from quick-links. Replace the running rigging with 20lb braided dacron. The original rudder mounting was rather weak (although it did the job), and I replaced mine with the traditional rudder shaft in a brass tube.

BTW, if racing, the all-up-weight of the completed boat must not be less than 3lb 4oz. Mine weighs 3lb 5oz!

I am still after a copy of the original instructions, and I guess the Lesro ones are the originals with the name changed. If you can manage to copy them, I would gladly swap with copies of all the info I have gleaned from various sources.

Look forward to hearing from you.

                 Regards,

                Ron

                  Ron,

I believe that the instructions are probably the same ones, which appear to be rebranded with a sticker.  If you e-mail a contact address to [email protected] I will copy them and pop them in the post.  All advice is gratefully recieved – I haven’t started building yet, and every little helps as I’m not sure I actually know what I’m doing!

                  Cheers,

                  Jim

Just found this old thread – I've been looking for information on these boats for a while. Everything I've found, including some articles, is here:

                      **LINK**

If someone is still reading this and can help, I would like to get a digital copy of the instruction manuals, and some photos of the boat (sailing and on stand), of the original box, etc.

Also, I have no reference or any information about the "590" – if possible, I would like similar information for this boat, also.

                      Thank you.
