Hi Jim,
Lesro bought out the Duplex Craft Co many years ago and, yes, there was a 575 Club at one time. The information I have received is that several 575s are still raced, although the racing appears to be mainly around the Sheffield area.
Nevertheless, I did get a great deal of help in the way of copies of articles that appeared in the model press at some time, and I am quite happy to share them with you. They mainly involve modifications and/or improvements to the original design, the most important of which seem to be to replace the concrete keel with lead. This lowers the CoG so the boat is much more stable. Also, replace the standing rigging with wire – I used 20lb trace wire – and make rigging adjusters from quick-links. Replace the running rigging with 20lb braided dacron. The original rudder mounting was rather weak (although it did the job), and I replaced mine with the traditional rudder shaft in a brass tube.
BTW, if racing, the all-up-weight of the completed boat must not be less than 3lb 4oz. Mine weighs 3lb 5oz!
I am still after a copy of the original instructions, and I guess the Lesro ones are the originals with the name changed. If you can manage to copy them, I would gladly swap with copies of all the info I have gleaned from various sources.
Look forward to hearing from you.
Regards,
Ron
