Hi there John from another John

As far as the articles go, January 1980 – that was part 1 in the Model Boats magazine.  Then part 2 was in the February 1980 issue – whether there was a part 3 – I do not know – due to the fact that I only have photocopies of the Magazine Article – there is a place where you can purchase back issues of the magazine its Tee Publishing and their web address is

        http://www.teepublishing.co.uk/rare_magazines.php#9

If you struggle to obtain the copies you require, please let me know your email address and then I could try and scan the articles which I have – and send them to you.

Thanks very much for your ultra fast reponse. The emails would be great as a stop gap as I have already tried a number of sites for available back dates. I my memory serves me right I think there wer only two articles.

I started to build the model just after the article appeared but over the too many moves and disruptions over years the unfinished model got broken and plans destroyed. So now I have new plans from the plans service will try again in my retitement!

Thanks again, my email is: [email protected]

            Hi John (and John)

The January and February articles covered the building of the ship and the March article covered making the paddle wheels and gearboxes.  There was no article in the April issue but it did have a couple of pictures of the paddle wheels.

              Hello Grumpyi

Thanks for you information. I still can’t find any supplier who has these back copies available for sale but John has very kindly emailed me copies of info he has on hull but unfortunately nothing covering the paddle wheels and gearboxes. If you could help I would be greatly obliged, especislly as I have ordered the plans for the self feathering paddles (still to arrive from plans service) though I received the hull plans almost by return of post.

              John (M)

PS I will repeat my email: [email protected]

                John,

The forum which specialises in model paddle ships (paddleducks) has all the items, from the 1980 items stored electronically in their ‘downloads’ section. You may need to join paddleducks to download and print them.

                Hope this helps, Tony

                  Hi John (M)

For the moment the difficulty is that  my scanner seems to think that because summer is here it can take a rest and stop working.

I shall give it a severe talking to in the next couple of days and get it back to work.

Hopefully I shall be in touch very shortly with a copy of the article!

                  Regards

                  Grumpy

PS Does anyone else find that their computer, printer etc just stops working for no apparent reason?

thanks Tony, I have just registered with Paddleducks as you suggested, it seems a very interesting site. I am classed as a "newbie", having just registered and have to build up a ‘hiastory’ of interest in the site before being allowed to run a download. So will keep visiting and entering forums to prove good faith. Their download list includes Jan 1980 but no mention of Feb or March but will keep trying.

Grumpy, sorry to hear about you scanner. I was in electronics whwn working and cannot give you an answer to your PC’s idyosynchronasis but my theory is that all computors and their peripherals are of the female genre so, so as far as we men are concerned they do what they want, when they want. Try singing "All things Bright & Beautiful" to it. A trick that used to work for a friend of mine in the navy when he grew exasperated with the problems of a particular top secret radar set he was responsible for. Or maybe it just made HIM feel better!

Will look forward to hearing from you soon, best of luck.

                      John

I was working in Devonport dockyard until recently and I remember seeing Forcefuland a sister tug fussing around a war canoe coming in for some refurb. The current operators who I believe are Serco Denholm have changed forceful out of sight sorry, and finally, John Elsy …. Do I know you? Cheers Mike D

                          Hi there Mike

Before I answer any questions NOT GUILTY your Honour  or, do I owe you any money  .   Mike did you ever live in North East of England UK anytime – if so, it is pretty high chance our paths may have crossed.  I did, for a while, live in St Neots Cambridgeshire (Eaton Socon) so there is a possibility there….also, I used to work for a small engineering company who had a Naval Contract…….we used to work in most of the Ports around the Uk with that company……

so there is another possibility my friend…..

                          aye

Hello Mike D and thanks for your response, however I think you may have the wrong Forceful. ‘My’ Forcefull was a paddle tug and and was scrapped in in 1990.

I have (hopefully) uploaded a photo of her.

                            Many thanks anyway,

                            John

Hi John Elsy, Thanks for answering my question, but I think you cannot be the person I thought you might be. The John Elsey I had in mind is the manager of the Sea King / Merlin simulator at the Royal Naval Air Station Culdrose in Cornwall, and in the eighties, we worked together on the Wessex simulator. The Cambridge connection is probably the closest as I spent some time at the university as a guinea pig for some psychological trials, but I was O.K.and they had to let me go.Still, I hope we meet some day at a peg board or at a pond side watching our boats together
