In Model Boats May issue page 46, mention is made of 3volt 73 rpm motor from "MIcromotors". Have you any details of Micromotors such as an address or a website address please. I have built Model Slipways four hatch coaster and would like to obtain one of these motors to motorise the radar scanner on my model. Many thanks in advance.Ian Graham.

          Thanks for your e-mail Vinnie.

I tried the website you suggested, but didn’t get very far with it. It seems to cater for the trader rather than individuals, but thanks anyway, I’ll hope to get a bit further with it.

          Ian.

            Hello Ian

I suspect that the name "Micromotors" could be a description rather than a company, however you could try http://www.remtrak.com/robots/motors.htm who do a very nice slection of 3v motors or of course you could always call in to your local Maplin store.

            Hope this helps

            Paul

               thanks very much Paul.

I did try the site but unfortunately the motors listed are all high speed ones and the one i require runs at only 73 rpm.  Where the radar is situated its not able to use a geared motor it would just look out of scale.

              Thanks any way,

              Ian

                Hi Ian

A solution to your problem might be to get a 12v motor and run it at 3v, this would reduce the revs or you could introduce a variable potentiometer into the circuit near to the battery and use it as a speed controller.

Hi Ian, try looking at the hobby`s catalogue   http://www.hobby.co.uk or similar (from memory) they have miniature geared epicyclic motors..they also do a variable speed control board to get that all important 73 rpm ! Ashley

These are a handy motor source, some very small geared moors and I think they sell on ebay as well

                      Hi Ian.

I recently  pulled apart a discarded CD drive from a desktop computor and found a couple of tiny dc motors and small plastic gears, racks and quadrants. needless to say they are now sitting in my box of must have bits for the future.

                      cheers

                      David.

                        Hi Ian.

At 73 rpm it is either a stepper or a geared motor.

                        http://www.robotshop.ca/low-cost-gears-motors.html   scroll down.
