After reading John Johnson's thread "Advice and idea's needed please", I got to thinking about my grandson's yacht I am trying to renovate. My other post deals mainly with wanting advice on repairing the hull and rigging. with this one, I was wondering if it would be practical to try to make it look something less "toy like"?

Let me first off apologise for not knowing the correct terms to use when describing the following.

Taking a good look at it I noted that the mast would need replacing anyway as the eyelet screws in it just pull out. What caused me more concern was that the more I looked at the deck the more I was convinced that the socket meant for securing the mast in is off center, (actually by about 6mm to port). So that would need to be removed and set correctly. It also means that the 2 items that represent a cabin(?) or something, are also out of line.

The yacht is 645mm long and 170mm across widest part of beam. Not including the weighted keel(?) its about 90mm deep (about 160mm with keel). Mast is 686mm in height, and the boom(?) is 292mm long. I have no idea if it is any form of scale as, as far as I know it is just a kids toy yacht (though an old one).

So, re-centring the mast block is easy enough even for a beginner like me with zero woodworking experience. It looks rather shallow to hold the mast though. The deck needs to be completely cleaned off as the drawn "planking" is of varying sizes and off center.

So questions. Would it look right with some sort of proper cabin? If so how big?(Asking that as I guess it depends on how close to a scale the hull is). At present it has one large and one small triangular sail. Is the hull designed specifically for that configuration or could it be changed to add say a second small sail at front (Ive seen several photos with this type of configuration), or change its configuration altogether? the hull/deck has a metal trim around its edges at present. I presume its covering up the joint. Would it be ok to remove this if I was to plank the deck?

There are photos of it on my other post about it, which I have now linked properly. And Im sure I will come up with other questions. One my grandson has asked is how does he get it to come back to the bank of the pool or wherever he sails it, once its sailable?
