Hi I’m new to boat building. Just wondering best places to purchase balsa and plywood and there grades. At moment I’m using ebay/amazon and was wondering especially for plywood would people recommend purchasing from B&Q Wickes etc ☺

I wouldn't buy plywood from any of the DIY stores. It's nearly always interior grade, unsuitable for making anything except carrying boxes. This company has been my wood supplier for as long as I can remember **LINK**

Only source I use as well, which was based on Dave's recommendation.

Just put another biggish order in and have bought timber previously from their stand at the International Model Boat Show.

Buying from the DIY sheds needent be a problem but you do need to know exactly what you are looking for, as Dave says most of it is inferior (what we in the trade call cr#p) but sometimes the sawmills who supply the sheds make up the delivery orders by adding some decent stuff.

I did find an 8×4 sheet of aircraft grade plywood mixed up with a pile of 1/4 ply and bought it for a tenner.
