I'm completely new to model boats and am not really looking to start building! I'm looking for a model of the 1967 HMS Endurance to give to my Dad for his 70th birthday. He served on the ship and has fond memories of it. Is anyone able to point me in the right direction? Thanks.

May I suggest a good quality picture or photograph of HMS Endurance A171 there are several on the web, too commission a model of a specific ship will cost many thousands ££ and many months to have professionally built. when is his birthday ?

Hi Lorna,

Ray is correct, you are most unlikely to find a model of Endurance for sale and having one made would be prohibitively expensive.

There is a model of Endurance in the Royal Naval College at Dartmouth set into a polar diorama. I took some photos of it a while back and you can see one of them in the article I wrote on this website. Just go to Features then General and then look for the article titled Naval Treasures which I think is on the second page.

I would be happy to email you my photos of the diorama if they would be of any interest to you, you could print them out for example.
