Hi everyone
Name's Chris and I'm 63, so I think I fit with the age profile nicely!
No experience with building anything RC, though I did mess around with a boat and a plane when I was young and built the odd Airfix kit.
I'm semi-retired with most of my working life being from an architectural technician through building surveyor and project manager to my current role as data manager, so now mostly spread sheets and the odd building drawing.
A neighbour, into RC planes and boats and model railways, got me interested in boats last year. Intention was to build something but I was pretty much tied up doing DIY and maintenance so didn't have the time.
But keen to get started I bought a ready built Fairey Huntsman 31 off Ebay. It's the 46.5 inch one and upon collecting it thought that's big and heavy isn't it!
So wanting something smaller as well I was very lucky in being able to buy a Huntress off Dave Milbourn, who as you know is a fantastic modeller and the boat is superb.
I still haven't got either of them on the water! Far too cold now.
So during these winter months and inspired by Dave's Huntress at 1:12 my mission is to build some of the other Fairey's at the same scale. Currently I'm redrawing the plans for the Aerokits Swordsman 33 – the templates had been drawn round/traced by someone totally inept and weren't symmetrical.
I've now redone them using the kit plan and side elevation as reference and tweaked some parts to make the build easier. I'm also modifying the aft cabin to more accurately match the full size boat.
All I've got to do is start building it now. I'm itching to get started but the problem is that the spare bedroom is rammed at the moment.
Anyway, that's enough rambling from me but be warned I'll be back asking for build advice, the motor and prop shaft etc.
Chris
