      Hi all,

I am a modeller living in Belgium, normally flying models but recently with all the adverse weather decided to build a boat. 40 years ago built loads of boats but never a Huntsman. Have now started a 46" Precedent Huntsman which came from Cornwall Model Boats, (super service I might add!)

However I am now looking for a supplier of 1/8th scale fittings for this, anchor, cleats steering wheel etc. Can anyone point me in the right direction please? many thanks in advance André

In the 44 years since this kit was designed I've never seen any commercial fittings made especially for it. I had to scratch-build the fittings for the 1/16 scale version I did recently. There's also the fact that no two Huntsmen are the same in respect of fittings, particularly now they are nearly all restorations of the originals. I'd suggest you have a look at the Huntsman 31 photo album on the Fairey Owners Club website; choose which full-size version you'd like to copy and then scratch-build your own fittings. With 3D printing and resin-casting now realistic techniques for "DIY" modellers there's every reason to be successful. You could also buy a copy of the plans for the 1/16 scale version and simply double the drawing sizes!

            Hello André,

            And welcome to the forum!

For my part I don't know of any dedicated fittings for the Huntsman either (and if Dave Milbourn is not aware of any, my bet is there aren't any) nor are model boat fittings specifically at 1:8 scale all that thick on the ground.

However, depending on how exactly you want your model to follow either a generic or a particular Huntsman prototype, it might be possible to find at least some generic fittings of the kind you mention from a number of sources. This will require some patient trawling of websites and comparing sizes of e.g. cleats or anchors with what they should be if they were to 1:8 scale, and you might have to cheat here and there (say for example that a real-life cleat is 35 cm long by 5 cm wide, at 1:8 it should be 43.75 x 6.25 mm, but the one you find is 40 x 5, which would represent a scaled-up 32 x 4 cm; unless you are aiming for a very exact scale model, this should look quite allright).

Some sources worth checking for generic fittings are

Cornwall Model Boats (that you already know of): **LINK**

The Model Dockyard (similar selection to CMB): **LINK**

            Hobby-Lobby Modelbau: **LINK**

            Modelbouwshop Nederland: **LINK**

            Modelskibet: **LINK**

            Eskader: **LINK**

            Modelling Timbers: **LINK**

There is also a smaller selection of fittings (e.g. Robbe, Krick and Graupner) available to look at in-store (but mainly not listed on their website) at Albatros Modelbouw in Muizen outside Mechelen (which, if you fly model planes here in Belgium, you might already know of?!): **LINK**

Good luck and good Huntsman hunting!

              Hi Dave & Mattias,

Thanks for your replies, I was rather afraid of this so I will follow your advice and see what I can find. Many thanks André
