      Hi everyone.

I haven't built boats for a lot of years now, but retirement and too many aeroplanes has brought me back.

I have been given a glass fibre hull by a friend to get me going again, but neither of us has a clue what it is.

Can anyone on the forum help please. It is 610mm long and 150mm at the widest point. Here are some photos.

I have a considerable collection of model boat plans, but can't find anything similar. There is something about it that is familiar, but at the moment it beats me !

      Thanks. Kevin.

I'd say that hull was more tug like than sports boat.

It doesn't look much like a tug hull to me, shape is all wrong. I would agree that it looks like a sports cruiser.

Well at least it's not just me !

Thanks for your help. I think I might build it along the sports lines rather than a work boat, The problem is it is quite narrow for fitting a superstructure on and looking in proportion. I did think of building it as a pilot boat type, or aircraft tender. As a sport boat it would probably work better as an open vintage speedboat.

It has no hard chine, no deep V, a sloping forwards transom with too much crown and is very fat in the bilge. Work boat, if not a tug as such. It's just a bit of a weirdo. It could be turned into a period cruiser with a change to the transom, though, a la Osborne or James Silver, but only with additions to the sides, so an imaginative work boat scheme would possibly be easier.

BUT….it's a start, which is better than nuttn'.

                    Thanks Martin.

I have been looking through my old plans collection and might have found a work boat that I can adapt to fit.

I will keep you posted with the progress, but it will be slow !!!
