Hi, I am new to this hobby coming from a long time association with building and flying R/C aircraft. I have several muti channel radios and would like, if possible , to use them with boats. What mods are requitredd are these.

Also what channels are allocated to which task?

they need to be converted to transmit/ receive on either 27 or 40 mgh rather than the 35 mgh that is used with aircraft……….but having said that, it would probably be far cheaper for you to just buy a new 2.4g set at around 50 quid for a full set….plenty from the model shops/ebay, most from Spectrum, than spend time and money converting from 35 to 40 mgh.

Hi chaps

I know this sounds too good to be true, but a chap in our club, uses 35meg aircraft trannies and receivers and has simply inserted 40 meg crystals!

Is there a problem with this, somewhere along the line?…..Because it seems to work!

By using “40 meg” crystals you are simply changing a channel, NOT the frequency.it is the frequency you need to change for “ground kit”.

If you fail to do so, there is potential for accident, especially if someone else goes past behind you with a similar frequency channel and you are unaware of it. you could bring his aircraft down and vice versa, he could send you boat in to the concrete wall at full speed.

radio frequencies are not to be messed about with, so ALL radio control operators use within their own operating range, then there is “control” and safe useage.

Its basic stuff.

Many thanks for the advice. Should have mentioned that several sets are 2.4. Should also have mentioned that I am resident of Adelaiade South Australia. A lack of obvious boat clubs was a bit of a problem but that has now been resolved. Cheers Bob

Radio frequencies are governed by the authorities in the country where they are used. So some of the frequencies quoted above may or may not be applicable in Australia

Using a different Frequency Band Xtal ie 40 meg band in 35 meg band equipment will work. BUT it will badly affect the range and selectivity of the Tx Rx. Changing the working band is a skilled job if the Tx Rx combo is to keep its performance.

However since the Xtal governs the Transmitter frequency it is unlikly that you would “shoot down” another modeller unless you were literally on top of them. You could be “shot down” yourself by someone near to you on either band since the diffrent Xtal will seriously compromise the selectivity of the Rx
