      Hi,

Can anyone advise the best method to cover a balsa wood hull, I have been reading about using tissue and apply it with 50/50 dope and thinners.

I was wondering if it was possible to use Solarfilm.

      Thank you
      Derek

It is possible – I tried it once – never again.
It was not hard wearing enough and did not stick too well.
Stay with the tissue and dope.

Thanks Trevor I will stick with tissue and dope. Should i be looking for a certain grade or just ask for tissue in my local model shop.

            Thanks again

I do not think it matters, perhaps someone else can advise whether the the coloured “arty” tissue would save a coat of paint or two.
I’ve always painted the white tissue before.

Google “Modelspan” and follow the links. That’s the stuff you want.

Depending on what model you are building, you could go for the plates and rivets look as shown here…….

Thank you to everyone who responded. I am going to do some test pieces with white and colour tissue.

                    Thanks again
