        before i attempt to plank my steam launch would it be useful to cover the deck with thin plywood and then lay planks on to the plywood ?regards Brian

          Hi Brian,
           
          In a word, yes.
           
          The usual procedure is to lay the deck planking on a sub deck of thin ply, as shown in the photo below.

            I agree, YES.
             Otherwise unless you use quite thick deck planking, you will need a lot of “floor joists” to stop the deck sagging.
