David. Very good so far. I have just watched the second video…I am afraid you are just going to have to build BIGGER, no doubt about it.
I have settled on 48inches as about the right size…
Is it because this is a good size to fit widthways in my boot..or is is because 48″ is the “standard” length of a bit of balsa/ply sheet from the model shop..or the width of a 4` X 8` sheet of ply/hardboard?? who knows.
Scale starts to affect the look of a boat on the water….the larger the real ship, the smaller the scale used and the smaller it looks on the water..especially next to a much larger scale..tug or P.T boat which may be physically smaller.
As an aside, your T24 frigate would probably have been EASIER to make at 4 feet long..the details are less fiddly, and the boat is less weight conscious, it wouldnt need too much extra power either. A standard 540 would be more than enough.
My 1:96 type 42 is 57″ long and looks every inch of it on the water, even next to a much smaller scale but larger…battleship or whatever.
Ashley (size DOES matter) go for it
