          1. Obtain a ball equal in diameter to the cowl part of the ventilator

          2. Cut a slightly bigger hole in a sheet of wood

          3. Secure a sheet of  styrene to the wood.

          4. Heat styrene

          5. Push ball through hole to form cowl

          6. Cut out cowl and attach to styrene tube to form vent.

          7. Trim, fill and smooth.

I have used a method similar to this using a ball bearing, heated, and just placed on a suspended sheet of styrene. I had a jug of cold water handy to douse the lot when the ball sank to about half its diameter. You then have a ball embedded in the styrene, but a smart whack will remove it. This leaves a nice rim round the cowl when trimmed up. Bond this to a styrene tube and fill the join between cowl and tube with styrene slurry -et voila! It’s all a bit crude but it does work, after some experimentation with thickness of sheet and heating times.

                  Hello Larry

If you require large cowls……..Then those egg shaped ball things that kids get out of slot machines, with little toys inside, could be adapted…..with a little ingenuity!

Have a look at my mini fire boat blog on the fire boat site, it shows how I made some brass ones very simple to do, I would post it on hear but it takes so long to put pictures on.
