        Hello John

This model along with a similar one was a regular visitor to the big show at Woodvale near Southport every August.

The builder was a member of the Southport club and he used to sit inside it!

A lot of the superstructure was made of cardboard………….I often wonder where these two models are these days

How did he get there ,on a trailer or did he have a big van.

Did he do the paddles or was she powered.

            Hello John

He used a four wheeled trailer and his club mates assisted.

The paddles were powered by a car battery……or batteries

he was a very eccetric charactor, who built them.

he used to build them in his house, having  been known to take down a wall to extract them once finished.

they and he were once featured on the north west news.

sadly he died some years ago whilst building a 3rd one, and they were sold off.

This Paddler is Currently still with the Southport Club , or at least still was at the 2008 Woodvale show You can see some pictures on our clubs website See link below.) where it was on display on the Trailer , The other large craft That I saw at ellesmere port was the Aircraft carrier , that is still about with the orginal owner but does not travel much around this area.

Using the link below , sellect the woodvale picture , then select Woodvale Rally 2008 from the list , the paddler pictures are on page 3.  2 rows from the bottom

The crane in the picture is the work of members of the Wirral Model Boat Club Dave Morris and Mike Friend. it was constructed as part of the  F6 demonstration  on the water  team event which was  a major competitive event at the Boat Convention Ellesmere Port Boat Museum in the 1990s and  was well documented in the Model Boats magazine  around 1995 { I think} . The team and individual demonstration  events F6 and F7 were very popular with the general public and modelers alike . This event ran simultaniously with  Stan Robinsons "battle events" were there were copious amounts of smoke and noise.  The largest model ever to attend  the Convention was  Duncan Cameron’s  28ft carrier   HMS Invincible. Which was "towed   and docked"  by no less than 6 tugs.
