Newbie that’s me, at least to model yachting – I’ve been a ‘radio control’ hobby man for many years now, enjoying the delights of power boats, helicopters and currently fixed wing and now it’s time for the challenge of yachting ! The stumbling block will be my need to take the boat to the ‘water’ on a bus !

Although there may be other arrangements I can make once I have a local club and friends with transport, at this stage I only want to consider the bus – For ease of transportation, I see that the ‘Laser’ fits the bill, are you going to tell me that a newbie can’t sail a Laser and if you are, what else is there ?

      Thanks

      Roger

        Good Morning Roger

Given your experience with RC models you should have no problem sailing the Laser as it is a very straight forward and forgiving model to sail if a little hairy going downwind personally I would be looking for something a little more challenging to sail.

          Hello Paul

Thanks very much for your reply. Having spent quite some time on-line reading about the Laser both here and in the USA, it seemed that having one meant you wanted to race it so for some reason I’d assumed that meant it must be of complex design and therefore difficult to sail.

It’s this transport situation that’s quite important to me, would love to have had an option for something ‘looking’ a little better than the Laser but I couldn’t find another yacht lending itself to a bag on a bus !

          Please tell me I’m wrong

           Thanks again

          Roger

            You could try a Fairwind.

              Regards,

            Len

              Thanks Len

Is this the model you’re referring to

              Kyosho Fairwind Ready Set III

Do you know if this would ‘collapse’ for travelling in some kind of a bag ?

For me, a better looking yacht than the Laser and about £100.00 less !

              Thanks

              Roger

                Hi Roger,

Yes thats the one,the mast will pop out of the deck fittingand lay flat, bung it in a rucksack and off you go.

Of course if you want different sails for different winds then life becomes more complicated.

Where abouts are you ?.  ( If you fill in your Profile we would know a little about you )

                Regards,

                Len.

                  a Norfolk boy Len

so it’s the mast in a cardboard tube, sails rolled up in the same tube ?

I suppose I could make a fairly strong cardboard box with a foam moulding inside for the hull – could sit on my lap !

                  Regards

                  Roger

                  (do you have a Fairwind)

                    Hi Roger,

Yes I have a Fairwind,I bought it as my Club races them, but with me working shifts I dont race, it just sits in the shed, its only been on the water about 6 times.

                    Regards,

                    Len.
