      Hi Folks,

We brought two cheap radio controlled boats we earlier this year which both operate

      on the same frequency.

In very simple words can anyone tell me how to change the "thingy" inside one of them so we can use them close together.

      Regards

      Richard

        Hi Richard,

         Basicaly you can’t.

These cheap models do not have changable crystals in their receivers and that is the thingy you are talking about.

Also if you try to operate one of these cheapies near a boat that does have a decent receiver and transmitter on the same frequency ie 40meg or 27meg your signal will be swamped and you will be stuck out on the pond until they switch off.

Hope this is of some help.

        Regards,

        Len.

Guys. This is a problem with these cheap boats. Some of them look and go really great (for the money) but their usefullness is limited as Len says. A fortune awaits the geezer (or geezeress) who comes up with a way of fiddling with these sets to put some sort of frequency control on them for retrofit. I did have a thought that perhaps one of the smaller specialist manufacturers could come up with a swappit type unut to acheive this but of course by the time you have spent out on anything else it puts the cost up and you may as well have bought a more expensive RTR in the first place!   Ahley

It is bad enough when somebody with a proper set-up switches onto a frequnecy already in use but to operate one of the cheap things is irresponsible.  You should join a Club and learn the rules for safe operating. "50 yards apart" yuk!
