Hi Dave ,   thanks very much, the hull is built with ply formers , balsa planking then diagonal 1/32 balsa sheeting, with a coat of glass resin on the inside. A very light but strong hull. needs lots of lead to hold it down.

Sorry its taken such a long time for me to respond.

Hi Dave, I originally had a very old motor from a 1960s MTB that I sold in 1970. I have no idea of the make. I have recently installed a RE 540/1 which runs well on a 6v 4ah Yuasa lead acid. I’m still using Fleet Radio gear (40mhz) I have 2 complete sets purchased way back. Still as good as gold.  I wish you well with build. If you require any other build info please let me know, or you would like to see some other views/close ups of my model please let me know I and will gladly take some for you.

             regards

            Mike

I’ve just found your forum through a google search for the RYYC Cynette which I started building about 15 years ago.  I got the the sheet plans from Model Maker Plans but I have never seen the finished model.  Your picture has definitely re-kindled my interest and I am determined to finish it (or at least try).  I stopped once the hull was completed because I didn’t know what to power it with nor did I have any knowledge about the kind of rc equipment to fit.  Do you have any information on this and the rest of the construction as I do find the details on the plans a little scant to say the least and it would help me enormously if there was any detailed sketches or methodologies that could help me with finishing this stunning looking model.

                Any info gratefully received

                kind regards Ian

                    Hi Ian,

Thanks very much for comments, I am sorry I do not have any sketches or drawings of my build methods, as it was built ‘on the fly’ so to speak. I will gladly help you all I can with answers to specific questions or even some pictures of my model showing more detail.  Suffice to say it took me a long time to complete, the saloon is fully furnished, lights are working (using a relay from the receiver) all of the railings etc are self constructed, using long split pins and piano wire, saloon window frames are from OO gauge railway line, I could go on for ever??

                    regards

                    Mike

Thanks for your offer of help. Only just got round to replying as I work away from home during the week.

If you’re able to send any pictures showing the detail of the deck and superstructure that would be a great help.  Did you construct the cabin and wheelhouse from 1/16 mahagony ply?? How did you manage with the awkward angles to the front windows on both levels? What have you used to power the vessel.  My club is suggesting a 540 motor direct coupled to a 30mm 3 bladed prop.  Did you mount the motor forward and have a long prop shaft to allow batteries to be in the centre or did you mount the motor near the rear of the boat? If so how did this layout affect the cabin structure and how do you access the equipment in the hull of the boat?

Your comments advice would be most welcome.

                       Kind regards

                      Ian

PS. My email address is [email protected] if you are able to send any jpegs.

                             Hi Michael and other posters.

Very interesting thread, I have the plans and the mag article somewhere and a fibreglass hull for Cynette and been gathering further info as I find it. Came across this model when trawling    www.christies.com/LotFinder/lot_details.aspx?pos=1&intObjectID=3933887&sid= when a model was sold in 2002.
Would be interested in any photos etc Michael if you still have them ?
                            Cheers
                            Eric
