Good morning Ray and Ashley, thank you both for your continued interest, the dinghy is a resin casting made by SHG, but sold by The Model Dockyard. The steam engine is modelled on one that I made for my half size Burrell lorry which would have been about the same size as the one on Zulu, the boiler was a vertical one under the foredeck with a smoke stack just in front of the mast on the centre line, it would only need to be quite small, around 24” -30” high x 15”-18” diameter supplying steam at about 100 psi.

Ashley there is more to add yet, cleats on the rail or waring various ropes and holes for rollers for the nets to be brought on board, a real working boat.

      Regards

      Eddie.

        Hi Eddie,

I found the netting bags for the little Easy Peeler oranges make good fishing nets, which I used on Gwen's Spanish fishing boat 😀 and they are good eating !!

            Hi Eddie,

Yes I was evicted from the conservatory this morning, as the boss said it was beginning to look like another workshop 😀 I prefer to call it my studio.

Just found a grp Portlight sailing barge hull under a load of junk, may have to fit it out as a bowsprit racer.

            Regards Ray

What size is the Portlight? Roger has just moved back into the conservatory due to the failed light, my end of the shed is still OK for light, so I am having to go out in the rain to get there, all of 5 steps.

              Regards.

              A damp Eddiefrown.

                Hi Damp Eddie,

The hull is one Dave "Mastman" Watts 1/24th scale hulls, to be honest I never fancied the bluff bow ! But as a steel barge, makes the deck simple, may have to talk/bribe my granddaughter into running up the sails 😀 after little Gertrude 1/32nd build I thought I'd had enough of sail making !!

More painting done and the wooden gratings added iether side of the main hatch, two days just to make the gratings, the fore deck still looks a bit empty, but looking at the photo's that accompanied the article in MB I have identified another steam driven warping drum and hatch, the nets are weighted down with a heavy 3 1/2" diameter rope and when they are hauled in by this second warping drum it is detached from the nets and fed down through the hatch and stowed below the fordeck.

Zulu on first 'pond' trials, not much room to maneuver but looks promising.

                              Very nice Boxkite Eddie,

As you know I am a big IOM fan. Mine has stalled a bit because my winch failed when testing, just as I was putting everything back together. I can't make up my mind what to replace it with because I can't find the Graupner Regatta anywhere in stock. It would be nice to do a direct replacement as everything inside is already lined up.

                              What winch are you using?

Looking forward to seeing the reveal of the keel and seeing you zooming around on the water.

Chris reminds me I should post some stuff on my Huntsman 31 build (Precedent Kit with die cut parts)

                              Tim R

Tim, I have also had problems finding The Graupner Sailwinches. I have bought one or two Krick sailwinches snr.79074 from CMB. Enclosed drum but same spec as Graupner nr.5217 I don't think they're in Stock at CMB just now but I see that Krick in Germany have them back in stock. CMB will probably have them soon.

Hi. Ray, not too sure about going home after all these weeks of being looked after and being with good company😄.

There will be a lot of work to catch up with at home although my kids have been looking after it for me.

We are on the outskirts of Broadstairs and I haven’t seen much of the sea.

                                Regards.

Sounds as though we can sit in parks so I don't see any reason not to go to the lake, still taking precautions of course. Will see what the government say later today and then our boat club committee.

I have just heard that Wicksteed will be opening its gates tomorrow for cars to access the park, this may mean we can start boating there again, as long as we keep 2 meters apart, although I am still here in Broadstairs.

Zulu is almost ready to go, the nets have arrived and most of the crew, all the fittings are ready to be fixed in place as soon as I get the lacquer to finish the deck, masts and hatches.

I'm going to fly my electric plane tomorrow, the BMFA say it's ok 😄

Hi Ray, nice to hear that you can get out again, ( but what about the decorating ? ).

The glider that you posted a while ago reminds me of the one I built over 50 years ago that my wife flew, do all the model flying regs.apply to all forms of planes ? As l think that a glider would appeal to my grandson.

Perhaps a good time to sell unfinished projects.

I have now started to ‘distress’ the wood work a little to try and make it look like a working boat,

                                              Hi Eddie,

I'm not sure there are any rules about free flight models ! But rc devices under 250g are exempt from the rules, this CAA registration business is an attempt to prevent the drones which were supposed to have been at Gatwick airport and shut it down.

But it's rather like asking a burglar to register before he does a robbery 😄😄😄

Eddie. I only mention this as you have done such a great job on the rest of it, but I am not keen on the netting. Too stiff.

Obviously it’s difficult at this size to get scale netting, and you can’t easily get around to look elsewhere yet, but ?

I thought the crew were going on a fencing job! smiley

Seriously Eddie, I don't know if it's the right scale but I got an old fishing keep net for a neighbour's boat build which looks pretty good and is a brown/green colour.

Hi, Ashley / Chris, thank you for your comments, both good and not so good, but I do agree with you, I did look around the bungalow here but all the net curtains are patterned, and I would have been in deep doo doo had I cut 6” off the bottom of one☹️.
                                                      Regards.
