Looking very smart Ashley.  P&O ferries don’t have a very popular reputation at this end of the country after they sacked everyone and then rehired new crew on a new contract.  A very good friend of mine was a Chief Engineer with them who was offered a position as a ‘consultant’ to train the new foreign crew.  He told them where to stick it and retired.

The P&O thing wasn’t good but thankfully models a politic free.

        Charging batts for tomorrow.

Had a quick pond test yesterday but couldn’t get HSS motors to synch and run..defied my attempts to fiddle, and then a red wire fell off one of the esc plugs…so hopefully that was what the issue was (it was being held in place craftily by the shrink wrap). it was the esc supplying power to the rx as well…the other one had the bec lead disconnected. Disappointing.

Trevors secret project had a few issues but was generally OK…debut tomorrow.

I will be taking bumpers and tops, Mintanic, Zis and ferry with train top…besides the table, cloth coveting, banner, bumper display rings and lunch!

Thank you Richard. Someone said to us “haven’t you got any ordinary boats on the stand?” …fraid not!

Trevors new Woody pedalo debuted. Fireboat a big hit with the audience do to the powerful squirting.

One battery seemed a bit iffy, and this morning I found the lead was badly corroded so soldered a new one on. Fixed broken esc wire on HSS, put last of the stickers on the top. Deciding how best to do the strop windows (besides putting everything away again,)

Not only impressive but very colourful as well on what looked like a good day. The sort of selection that gets people curious about having a go at building something themselves maybe.

Perhaps I should have some sort of plan to give out…something really basic…to encourage kids/dads/,grandpa’s to have a go?

How about thinking caps on to produce an A4, perhaps, scaleable or full size plan. Card construction perhaps? Ebay equipment list or items found in most houses?

Almost didn’t go due to rain whilst loading up, but it cleared and the morning was good.

Sigh, HSS being fickle. Looks like the V tail.mixer doesn’t like the Planet T2+2. Eventually it was working but I have landed back at base and have swapped the rx for a Planet T5.  See how that goes.

However. It performed OK and reversed with the new Quickrun escs. Snaps via phone. Not QUITE finished yet, a couple of tiny things to do.

What about a quiz?  The answers can all be related to things around the park and the boats themselves.  Such things as “What is the name of the shipping line that the boat with two red funnels belongs to?”  sort of thing.

Maybe line drawings of a couple of the boats that can be coloured in with the same colours.  Things that make them go and look at the boats.

Having actually made the card landing craft as seen in the d day event thread it occurred to me that the idea of having some simple card ship plans to distribute to children ( parents really,) might be a way of encouraging boating, or at least an awareness of making things…boats in particular.

It would be the cheapest way for kids to boat, costing nothing more than a cereal packet , glue and paint. The Lct could even be made in ply for the adventurous. Five pieces only, the plan could indicate a doubling (or whatever) of measurements if made in wood.

A ‘display’ of say 4 different card models nicely made and painted with their free instructions in front, and a ply lander might be just the thing. The oft used phrase “your dad,/ granpa has a shed? He could make you something like this” ( indicating all the r/c boats) then just might stand a chance of becoming a reality even if just in card.

So you would be looking at simple shapes such as landing craft and possibly barges and American inland pusher tugs etc?

Yes. Basically something you could just use a ruler for to mark out the parts.

Lander. Ferry as a repurposed lander, canal boat?

There are free pdf downloads out there but possibly a bit complicated for a “heat of the moment after watching boats on the pond” build. Curves and all that.

I think some demonstration how-easy-is-that-to-build ply boats nicely painted and accessorised with toys might go down well by way of showing the easy potential.

I will knock up a twice size ply lct7074 lander to gauge the potential.

Ray, if you are looking at A4 size as a basis then it is best to get an ‘All in One’ device which does printing, photocopying and scanning.

I have an A4 printer/scanner from my office when they shut it down and we worked from home, what I’m after is an A3 size black & white  which can enlarge A4 up to 200% to end up with the model the size I want 🙂

                                              Hi Ray,

A3 scanners seem quite expensive. I had the same issue when building my Greek Fishing Boat. I decided to try the tiling function on my A4 All in One as recommended by Chris E when discussing printing options for plans included on the digital editions of the magazine.

I had originally felt it was all a bit of a faff but in the event it proved to be surprisingly easy with the help of some Scotch Magic tape and I ended up with a perfectly usable full size A3 plan at minimal cost.

                                              Colin

Back again. Yes two Eventides here at the pond Ray.

One of the things I missed early on after leaving work was an A3 copier.

D-Day ‘event’ ok, fabulous day and caught a bit of sun on my handsome visage… we were there from about 0900 to 1500.

. No one other than our normal crew of course turned up. Trevors big Flower class corvette looked good and was the eye candy on the pond, moored up next to the 5 foot LcT. A row of German pill boxes and tanks were statically assaulted by a row of the remaining landers on the grassy knoll.

I have an idea to homogenise this for this for next week, as to be honest it just looked like two rows of stuff laid out. Public blissfully unaware of the parks D-Day connection so the info leaflets went down well. Need a D-Day sign to tell them what the diorama represents.

Make your own lander leaflets well received. It was good having a ready made one to show, and the strawboard one i made twice- size will eventually get a dad or grandad to make one. I have made a dispenser for the leaflets for next week to draw attention to them. When I finalise a few more designs they will be a permanent feature of our boating on the pond to encourage some boating craft activitly. Designs needed please, as simple as the Lander. First one can be a ferry of course as they are essentially the same. In fact I will replace the strawboard one with a hardboard version and paint one side as an lct, the other as a ferry to show the variation and utility with toy cars etc. One of those torpedo battery units underneath would of course make it actually go on the water.

Sand would be good! I have a blue cloth for the sea, and will see what I can do for sand. Something delineate the German defences is needed. I should be able to rustle up some plastic barbed wire…black pond netting. I might even change all the pill boxes and bring my 1/32 scale “Airfix gun emplacement” instead, which would be more fitting and impressive.

The ‘display’ is larger than it looks in the photo. Trevors corvette missing latern radar, not fixed securely enough on the day/ it was a bit breezy.
