I picked one up from Aldi for less than £40, the saw is brilliant but the original blade was no good so I just bought a decent blade and now I have a first class bandsaw.

Image result for aldi powercraft bandsaw

        Hi Paul,

yes the Aldi/Lidl tools are very cheap, with a bit of fettling they are extremely good value for money,

the problem is when are they going on sale, these specials only sell once a year,

Can you remember what time of year you got it? they seem to follow the same cycle.

        Thanks: Ralph.

            hi Bob,

you sometimes see them on fleabay, I have a record scroll saw which is extremely good,

the old Dewalt saws are good if its got an adjustable height on the blade guide, but I think that the new Dewalt tools are not what they used to be, all my power tools in work are Dewalt and to be honest they are not a patch on my own at home, these are quite a number of years old and still going strong.

            Ralph.

I have just read your comments about dropping clangers and not knowing the correct terminology.

Don't worry…….the drawings are straight forward and I don't do complicated terminology (except when arguing with Bob).

The timbers specified in the drawings are all easily available at most of the large DIY outlets and nothing about the construction is over complicated.

If you read through Bobs build you will see all of the problems that Bob encountered and the corresponding solutions.

Twin MFA 800 Torpedo motors (or suitable alternative) are more than adequate to move the model along at a reasonable pace.

                  Bob

Can I join the VGC club please

Hi Paul, thanks for the reassuring words, I am reading Bobs build as a template for mine, have got an old Dewalt 3501 band saw from fleabay or will have when I pick it up next week, am working now until Tuesday so everything goes on hold until then.

thanks for the info on what size motors to use, good to know,

Will post when I start the build as a new thread.

                    Thanks again Ralph.

She didn't sink but it was a close thing…………. top heavy, needs some radical surgury in the superstructure and the battery moving forward.dsc_0156.jpg

Although this model looks very nice it differs from the real thing in several respects, the stern is wrong, she has a curved transom not a complete semicircle of the counter deck, the breakwater on the bow and many other details are missing from the model and the real thing has much fuller lines in the hull which probably explains the instability of the model. also she was built entirely from riveted steel plates except for the aft saloon not wood. The only photos and plans on the internet are mine, I made the plans using the original blueprints from which I traced the basic lines of the boat, needless to say the blueprints are much more detailed, also she has not been scrapped, she is very much still in existance and largely unaltered except for the aft saloon being replaced with a steel box to keep out the weather, she is now in a boatyard awaiting restoration subject to funds becoming available, I can vouch for these fact as I am her present owner. However I would like to congratulate the maker for building a beautiful model even though she not MSC Sprite. http://www.nationalhistoricships.org.uk/register/2856/msc-sprite
