And while we are at it, the secondary armament would look good turning as well….and all this assuming the rangefinders are tracking the target.

What is really needed is black smoke, and lots of it.

        Hello Luddite

I agree that stepper motors would be ideal and better than my suggestion of geared motors, I had envisaged such a system being operated via the 'flap' switch on the transmitter but a turning knob would give a greater range of turn.

        Happy New Year John

Even better if the barrels rise and fall as the turrets turn…an easy thing to atchieve by using a cam but what do I know

Back to my playpen whilst the grown ups have serious discussions.

Ashley, given the standard of electrical knowledge by many model boaters I think plenty of smoke could be guaranteed!

Funny enough, having just mentioned it, more in jest than anything else, but having the directors turn is a must. surely, if you are going to all that trouble with millions that many turrets?

But if the director was knocked out it might just be heads swivelling inside the armoured conning tower!

WW1 battleships were equipped with varying degrees of director control – or none in which case each turret relied on its own gunlayer and local equipment.. Obviously the big rangefinders, 9 ft in the earlier dreadnoughts, would train but I'm not sure what other equipment could be seen to follow the target unlike in WW2 where you did have a big revolving director usually mounted above or behind the bridge.

I would see using two 'knobs' on the RC. One would be for the direction of turn, the other to select the turrets. ie position 'ALL" would turn all the turrets, with special instructions for, say, firing 5 degrees off the bow, where the stern turret may remain as it was, or at least stop at 150, then it would be feasible to have about five or six stations for individual turrets, and even the controllers. I am getting far too excited about this and will have to calm down. I have other fish to fry right now and must stay on task!

Be careful that you don't burn your fingers whilst frying all that fish, I do like the 'set and forget' aspect of your control system idea.

160+ posts on Mayhem have produced a lot of opinion but little in the way of a working solution

That's the way with Mayhem but the people who are actually working on the project seem to be making interesting progress.

                      I'm finding it interesting.
