Are there any plans available for the Great Eastern ship?

The National Maritime Museum has some , but the problem with the original plans was IKB had a habit of changing his mind often. This is appartent when looking at the plans and compairing it to pictures or in the case of SS great Britain the full size ship. Lots of things arn’t the same on the full size ship to the plans.

If you contct the SS Great Britain Trust  they might help as Dr Ewen Corlett is a wonderful source of information on IKB’s ships.

I`ve already sent an email to the NMM……………………….Just got to wait and see now.

In the meantime, I`ve  been scouring the net for pictures of the ship and gathered quite a collection

Should be quite impressive at 100 to 1 scale………83" O/L X 14 .5" BEAM

Yes sadly that is normal for them,  they are expensive.

Not to be beaten………………I`m looking at a hull based on Jeanie Deans……the hulls are quite similar…………….I enjoy struggling!

Don’t know if this will help you at all but when I scratch build I start off with the basic info and hopefully some sectional details then I draw up my own plans.

When I posted my first set of pictures………………it took 20 DAYS to appear…….and four days was quite common

They have to be "checked"………………..for what?…..don`t ask me!

Its true … they don’t need checking, see I’m on your side Vinnie, they just take the scenic route through hyper spaces black-hole ! they must have to stay in the phantom zone until the escape committee come up with a cunning plan ….

Hello everybody

You have had a busy afternoon discussing my bits, for myself I am just to modest but I did used to perform with the chippendales (or was that the chipmunks)

Anyway the drawings are somewhere in cyberspace and I am still not sure that they will be of any use to Bob when they finally land as Bob might be a lot more demanding in finished plan details than I am.

Here’s hoping that they appear before Santa.

Just a thought, if you contact the Bristol industrial society and try to either obtain a copy of their journal below or the author I am sure the article will be of interest as it has several pictures taken on board shortly after her completion. keith is an absolute gold mine of information about SS Great Eastern, he has madea rather large model of her which is in the NMM.
