      Hi Chris

I have been off the radar for quite a bit but following here and there.  This is a real cutie!

Love the varnished transom against the off-white painted topsides.

Have you got a pint-sized person to navigate?

Hi Tim, good to hear from you again. I know you were busy with moving.

Varnished mahogany and white paintwork is my favourite combination. I have a number of Fisher-Price figures which suit my 1:12 builds and whilst they don’t look too bad I would like to get some more realistic figures at some point.

RC installation now installed and working. Had to do the programming of the ESC a few times as I couldn’t get the motor to run in reverse but got there eventually. This is definitely the smallest model I’m going to build!

Started the detailing by making a mount for the wheel and the throttle. Decided against the brass plated wheel shown earlier as decided to go a little smaller and less blingy. Replacement is solid brass and not shiny so better. Surprised when it arrived as it was a kit of parts! Fiddly and a test for the eyes! Good quality though and gawd knows how they machine such small parts.

Window frames have been glazed and need gluing in position. Roof needs another coat of paint and mahogany edging and some more varnishing to do but other than that it’s almost there. Need to make a couple of roof rails and maybe a screen but that’s not essential – will see. Once done I can get back onto the Fisherman etc.

Hi Chris, If its 1:12 you want there a Star Wars figure of Hans Solo which I have had from ebay for as little as £3 which with very little surgery and a bit of P38 makes a very good 6″ tall man. He appears on a few of my models. There’s also a range at 3.75 tall (search Star Wars 3.75) Ebay item 396770846316 is one of the 6″.

For 1/12 scale figures look through the dolls house stuff.  I don’t like the ones with real cloth clothing as they look unrealistic but there are many of the resin ones that convert well for model boat use.

I have had a look before but couldn’t find much I was happy with. But that was awhile ago so will have a look again. I think resin will be the way to go as the detail is better.

Well, apart from the minor items mentioned before and some deck furniture (I shall return to this later) that’s the build finished! It’s been a record for me as I started it less than 12 months ago with a big chunk of time not working on it during the summer!

I’m really pleased at how it has turned out, being my first non-hard chine hull and plank on frame and my smallest model still at 1:12.

I shall resist starting on my two non-Fairey projects (well for now anyway) consisting of water-jet and outboard models and return to the Fisherman and other Faireys.

These guys worked well in the Borkum although, as has been pointed out to me, they would probably be wearing warmer clothing for an open boat on the North sea!  They would suit the Fairey Faun even better.

                            Hi All,

Figures on the boat is quite interesting my clubmate has lent me one of his printed helmsmen at the 1/12th scale he’s asking £20 each but I will stick with my charity shop 50p Doctor Who chaps ! I don’t want to blow the budget 🙂

Chris a few deck fittings ? cleats and fairleads will look good DSCF3027DSCF3028

You made yours didn’t you? They look nice in brass and would love some of them.

I’ve been struggling to find good quality fittings in any material.

                                Hi Chris,

My cleats are 3 1/2″ gauge loco handrail knobs with 3/32″ stainless rod about the right size for 1/12th scale, filing fairleads from brass is good fun 🙂

She looks very pretty , I’m sure Lindsey would be interested in publishing your design , and you get a few bob in return for more toys 🙂

                                  Thanks Ray.

I’ll do a report at some stage but I won’t be doing it as a plan. I’ve made too many changes as I’ve gone along and modifying the drawings is a lot of work. Also there are already plans available for similar designs albeit with hard-chine hulls.

A better bet would be the modified Sprite as per my outboard project which can be an inboard version as well.

Being a fair weather sailor (me that is, not the model, though that as well!) the little  Faun has been ready for its lake trials for sometime and was finally taken to the club yesterday.

Very happy with how it performs apart from it needing more port rudder – the set up doesn’t efficiently transfer the movement from the servo arm to the rudder arm. See if I can improve it but it’s not a biggie in a slow craft. Just have to plan my manoeuvres with room to spare! Even with its brushless motor it will just trickle along very slowly and smoothly if required.

I suppose I’d better finish it now!

Well done she looks very cute, all you need is a helmsman or women and a red ensign on the back job done 🙂

PS You really should think about a plan article for the magazine as Tim says ? at this rate you’ll be able to fill your car up with the proceeds the way prices are going 🙁
