      Tim,

Yes, I can see why Spraymount would be the way to go with epoxy, trying to lay cloth down on a coat of wet epoxy would be a nightmare for me! Eze Kote is much thinner, (like motor oil), you can put a coat on, apply the cloth and slide it around a bit if necessary. No reason why you can’t use Spraymount though.

        Hi Ray

Thanks for your input, yes I did get an original copy of the magazine & plan on Ebay so looking forward to getting going. Did you have any joy with your request hoping to find drawings for Porter & Haylett broads cruisers?

Cant fault SLEC, ply ordered Wednesday late evening, on my doorstep Friday pm. when we got back from holiday.

          Hi All,

Yes I have used lightweight glass cloth and both West Epoxy (which is expensive ) and water based resin on balsa planked boats, but have never seen the need to glass cloth a plywood boat in my experience, also single chine boats are more tricky to glass cloth in two pieces , my 30″ Silver Mist and 48″ HMS Diamond Destroyer and 30″ Shandau are balsa planked and areShan P17 both glassed 🙂

          Regards Ray

The trouble with West Epoxy is that, unless you can accurately proportion the resin and the hardener you invariably have to mix the whole lot and then use it pretty quickly.  I also made the mistake of leaving it in the plastic bottle after mixing, not realising that the generated heat was enough to melt it.  That was a mess that took some cleaning up.

I tend to use Isopon products now as you can measure out a smaller amount of resin and then add the relevant amount of hardener from the small tube.

I weigh the resin and hardener into a disposable container using a small set of scales. Then mix and dilute with Isopropyl alcohol. Works for a small model but I don’t try to cover all the model in one go.

I stick to stuff that you measure 50/50, keeps things simple!

Well the new feed tank is now fitted and the deck unit replaced into the model.  I have had a couple of runs out of it on the workbench and the feed tank seems to work fine.  No leaks and it supplies the feed pump without any challenges.  A lot of work for a simple mistake.
