Mike. There we have it. One of the very problems that beset the original Ekro. The other problem is actually keeping it out of the air, or at least, gaining altitude. i read that these boats could actually get up to about 2000 feet or so in actual "flying" mode. You only have to look at footage of tunnel boats or hydroplanes to see the danger of having all that lift available. Also of course the Bluebird, flipped up at high speed. I have an idea that the model Ekros refferred to had props in front of the stub wings to provide the initial breakaway cushion, and this to a degree would be self regulating at the higher the craft went, the more lift it would lose as the cushion melted away, and so it would drop to the correct altitude again. An Ekranoplan of course can operate over any flattish surface, dont have to be water.  Ashley

        Hi Ashley,

Over the last couple of months I have not been checking the forum regularly so I have only just seen this thread.

There were two articles on this subject in Marine Modelling.  The author was Graham Taylor and they appeared in the June 1995 and March 2002 issues.  He has obviously done a lot of research into this subject and has produced several working models.

        Regards

While looking through some old MMI mags in the nov 1997 coming next month was a nice looking Ecranoplan yellow in colour by Graham Taylor?,so has anyone got the Dec 1997 MMI and if so could they check to see if the article is there and if not too big maybe scan it and Email to me?.

         Thanks for anticipated help,

        Len.

I can only spare time for my modelling because I made enough money to live on into my old age. I hit upon a brilliant idea to make moneyin the seventy’s, and I cornered the market by a clever buying strategy. I bought out a factory manufacturing rubber bands, and as soon as I had control, I re-tooled the production lineto make a nice long rubber band that could fit inside the Bond Bug motor casing, then I changed to 50% reliant robin production. I think I might be able to get into the modern market with a drive band for a Vx Corsa or a Ford Ka. but in the meantime, here is an Ekranoplan, model that !

especially the ten gas turbines at the front p.s. look at the floats on the stub planes, it must have been some accident that highlighted the need for these……………………………

I could have done with an Ekranoplan on the pond today, iced over completely, about 1/4" plus it was. Nearly took out me Titanic, for a larf.    Ashley

              Morning Ashley

Now that is a challenge even for you…………………to build a model ice-breaker powerful enough to break the ice on the pond so that others can sail.
