Just a few pictures of a Wooden Ark just completed for my youngest Granddaughters Xmas present. The Ark was easier than the animals. The Ark is about 22" long.

Tim. Lovely, a classic Noah`s Ark, but as DG has asked….where Wally? Noah?

Yes I bet the animals took ages.

It is a lovely present for your granddaughter given with so much more care and feeling than simply nipping into ToysRUs.

Thank you for sharing it with us.

Thanks for the comments. I did attempt a Noah and Mrs Noah but didn't look interesting enough. I can't take all the credit, my wife drew some of the animals outlines for me and the Ark is based on one in Richard Blizzards Wooden Toy Book.

                Thanks

Tim. You can certainly take the credit for bothering to make it in the first place, own design or not.

I know where Noah is…. Alas, I cannot refer you to the item directly, so you will have to scroll down to Example No. Seven in this link…

DG, I don't know what to say – except that you clearly have too much time on your hands…

Ah, Colin… F Anstey gets so little publicity nowadays. And he wrote Vice Versa, and the first time-travel story… but I suspect he's well out of copyright now – so you could illustrate the poem and run it in your Christmas Special for the kiddies…

                          Thanks again for the comments.

Wasn't too much bother to make the Ark, Ashley, it made a change from struggling with my Graupner Bernhard Gruben; but I will get there (eventually). Then I can make a start on that Eezebilt PT Boat at 1/35 scale that's next on the list. But those animals certainly gave me sore fingers.

I have looked at plans for a Wooden model of one of those big American Fire Engines with an 8 foot ladder and 2 pumps; I'm sure my Grandsons would like it but not sure my son would like to store it.

                          Maybe one day.

                            ….

Interesting to hear! I haven't made one at 1:35 myself, but I've now holed a 1:48 one twice on rocks (they don't sink and are easy to repair) so I suggest considering 1/16" ply for the hull skin.

Bit like putting them on a reef, which always used to be a danger during the Philippines campaign…and the easy repairing is quite like full-sized practise as well…

                              Thanks Dodgy

Yes I am planning to use 1/16 inch ply on the hull, as you suggested on another thread. Would have got further than just having the plans printed out to 1/35 size, but Graupner build has been a problem. I am seeing some light at the end of the proverbial tunnel but this winter, hopefully, this will see it finished.

What modification level are you thinking of for it?

                                – The very earliest ones had Mk18 torpedo tubes, no radar and a single 20m Oerlikon at the rear. There were occasional depth charges.

                                – Then they started carrying the 37mm M4 at the front, and added the SO dome radar on the mast.

                                – After a while they switched to the roll-off racks with the Mk13 torpedoes and added a Bofors 40mm at the stern. And the radar became the more sophisticated SO-3.

There were all sorts of specials and one-offs as well, giving you lots of opportunity for variation…rockets, for instance, towards the end of the war…
