Hi there, Can anyone advise me on the winding of model electric motors. Especially the relationship between the diameter of the wire and the length of wire wound. Is it better to have more turns of fine wire or less turns of heavier gauge wire. What is the effect of both on the speed of the motor? Many thanks

Will you send me your regular E-Mail address via a private message? I have a copy of an article about this very thing.

Hi Dave, is that Glynns article you have, if not I can forward that to Chris as well.

Yes, but do you have both the text and Chris's E-Mail address? If so I will happily bow out.

                Dave,

I regret that I haven't seen Glynn's paper on the subject of rewinding DC motors. However I have a question – why would you need to rewind a motor given the range of DC brushed and brushless motors that are available to purchase with a very wide range of Kv ?

I did rewind a 540 according to Glyn's article and got a very useful motor as a result, but that was in the days before brushless motors and when there were very few different 540-sized motors available.

I have E-mailed you the article. Please pass it on to Chris.

Thanks Dave, received ok and I will pass it on as soon as his profile has an email address.

Ian, I sometimes rewind motors because I have a tub of various 540 can motors, and I can rewind them to alter the torque, amps etc. But mostly I do it because I enjoy doing it. Learning and doing is fun for me.
