      p1010005.jpgp1010004.jpgHi Guys

My mate received this boat today for free.

      Length 1000 mm x 300 mm.

It was a plan in Model Boats Mag. in the 70's or 80's and was to be IC powered.p1010003.jpg

Looked a bit like the SNAPPER or CATCHALOT to me… but neither of those are 39" long. 39" would have been on rather the large side for those days.

          Looks very well made, though…

            Hi Dodgy

It has the Snapper very pointed bow but not the Catchalot drop bow.

The stern is straight up and down.

The boat is made from 1.5mm marine plywood with a few very light stringers.

The deck has a slight curve.

As we have the plans of the Wolverine, we thought a straight stern slightly smaller version with a 1450kv 35mm brushless motor.

              …and no obvious prop-shaft that I can see…

The boat bulkheads and keel also look a bit thin and delicate to me for that period. I don't suppose it might be a plan which has been scaled up a bit while keeping the original material sizes?

                Hi Dodgy

                You maybe right.

He has used the 1.5mm ply in three one length pieces and glue together.

The stringers are only 3mm square and the transom you can use it for a mini drum.

We are think of added spray rails and strengthening up the transom.

A few coats of vanish, making a fibreglass mould so we can make it into a cabin cruiser(aka Wolverine) or an offshore racer.

As it is the hull is nicely made but to weak to use as a RC boat.

It was free and it's not on the tip, also 1/2 sheet of 1.5mm plywood.

                Winner, winner chicken dinner!!!

Several options spring to mind…. sheath the hull in fibreglass… add another layer of 1.5mm ply….

It might be fun to add a layer of balsa, and then another layer of ply, which would make a very stiff hull emulating the construction techniques of full-sized powerboats in the 1960s…

                    Hi Dodgy

The 1.5mm plywood which was use is not available and too nice to use up adding another layer.

If it was my boat I would make a mould and de-skin the boat for the plywood.

I have built one boat from balsa and never again, I will stick to plywood.

With the power of brushless motors with Lipo batteries weight is not a big problem in the boats I build.

Perhaps it was intended to be the plug for a fibre-glass mould?

                        Hi Dave

The plywood is the same I used on the sides of the Sea Hornet.

Too dam nice for a plug.

I would have used interior ply at half the price to make just a plug.

Instead of thinking about propeller shafts you might consider the possibility that an airscrew powered this particular boat

Now THAT would make sense. That Paul, not just good lookin`..

Very light, wide for stability. The way to go for completion I recon.
