Sammy. Good question that, The Toyboata and Herald were the lads ideas, but I like to make a bit of a different model to the norm, and so…well… the ideas just pop into me `ead, officer.
The current secret project (completed and tested very satisfactory) is a real cracker and really really different.
The articles in the mag appear because of the unusual subject rather that the particularly high standard of workmanship, . I haven’t got the time or will to spend hours on detail and railings/whatever, so the choice of model reflects my desire for a “swift build”,
The most time I have spent on a model is probably the Titanic, due to the required number of small parts to detail the deck and hull (shell plating) even on a stand off model , but it is only a stand off model at the end of the day.
Of the rest, they have been built to satisfy various criteria…The HMS MIdge was my first build after a very long model boating absence and was chosen as it is a bit of an un-modelled subject, and a very straightforward project; the aircraft as they were particularly novel, and also to keep the lad interested in boating, the battle-cruiser “Glorious” to test the plank and hardboard construction, and to be FAST; the Nelson as I liked the profile of these battleships and fancied a camouflaged vessel, the sub as I have always wanted a sub….. HMS Devastation as I was initially aiming at the “clockwork tin-toy” look, landing craft for the lad, Rubber band boats as this method of propulsion intrigued me…..you get my drift??
Soon I will run out of things suitable for the mag and be forced to starve.sob sob
