Good morning everyone. I'm looking to convert revells 1/72 scale type viic sub into static dive. I'm currently planning the water tight compartment, and due to size limitations and complexity of connecting push rods and linkages to get the rudders and dive planes working, I was looking to install some water proof servos OUTSIDE the wtc. How reliable are these water proof servos? Are they designed to be immersed in water? Or are they just splash proof? Any knowledge gained through experience would be appreciated!

Though I have no direct experience with these, I do not think that waterproof servos are designed for a situation where there is a positive overpressure forcing water in. Traxxas waterproof servos are meant to be OK to a depth of 1 metre, but I have seen reports of them failing when used in Battleship Combat, where the boats may sink to a depth of 2 metres or more.

This site provides some interesting waterproofing ideas, including oil-filling…

The Hitec HS-646WP High Voltage, High Torque, Analog Waterproof Servo is rated !P7 – that is waterproof to a depth of one metre apparently

At some time in the distant past (not sure when), someone described in MB how they filled the servo's gearbox with grease and sealed the outside with a rubber sealant of the type you might use for repairing roofs. Messy, but it worked for him and he tested the concept in a water butt.

Thanks Paul! I think 1m depth would be adequate for me, but I just don't think I could 100% trust it to be waterproof! I think the only way to be sure is to incorporate the servos into the wtc 🙂

                  Hi

I use the traxxas in my sub. Worked for over a year without much of a hitch, although I do add some grease to them and drop them into plasti dip. MIne sits happily in two meters. I don't go deeper than that.

                  Cheers
