One of our members at the Brussel Royal Yacht Club (Belgium) gave us a superb model that now is standing proudly in our club house.
We think after some research that it should be a vintage class A model, following some drawings and measurements found in the book "Model Sailing Craft" by W.J.Daniels & H.B.Tucker published in 1932.
We are convinced, after contacting the MYCA that they had a team of very enthusiastic members building and racing A-class models in Antwerp and that they also attended once a year races in Gosport.
Only other informations:
– name : ATCHEPOU
– LOA = 77,4 in.; beam = 15.4 in.; draught = 11.4 in. ; freeboard = 4.3 in.; mast height above deck = 82 in.; displacement = +/- 50 lbs; sail area +/- 1.700 sq.in
– gear : quite sophisticated type, "self-taking", see "Vane Steering Gears" written by A.Wilcock in articles from "Model Boats", so certainly after WW2.
– indication "MYCA" on the hatch;
– last owner: marinepainter E.Gaston Callens (1925-2004).
Does anyone has historical information about this model ? Hints of what plan/architect was used ?
Thank you in advance.
Yves
