        Hi All,

Some of us fancy some light relief with a Mass Build thanks Roger, Tim & Eddie for your encouragement.

It's not a race but we hope we can build a flottila of Tribal Class destroyers and meet up for a Mass sail at some point in the future 😀

SARIK sell the plan for £12.50 mainly balsa construction.

Let us know if your up for it ?

        Kind Regards Ray

Ooer it's a bit empty in here, kinda echoey. I'm up for it but you mentioned enlarging to 1/96th and I'm not very good at that kind of thing so will there be help offered?

The magazine article which accompanied the plan was published in the January 1958 edition of Model Maker. I've attached the text but had to avoid the small page size plan which was also published (whilst the plan is still on sale, I don't think I could show it when someone is trying to earn a living!).

The scans aren't the best, they were sent to me.

              Thanks Tony,

We will either build at 38" long as drawn by Vic or with the help of a big photo copier enlarge to 48" long giving 1 /96th scale of 1/8" to the foot I like imperial measurements 😀 when I built it last 50 years ago I recall it had the correct lines for the hull.

              Regards Ray

                Hello Ray

Before I book some sessions with a chiropractor, how heavy is the 48" model compared to the 38"

One of the reasons I am a big fan of model aircraft is that even the big ones are light. A recent post talked about a keel weight of 45lb made me weak at the knees.

It would be something completely new for me and that is why it appeals.

Looks like there could be 4 of us but I am glad you said it was not a race. With all my other projects it would fill a year easily.

                Count me in.

I'm not sure about the larger version buy as Tim says I will go with the flow.

I built one of these around 55 years ago. The original size was manageable as I recall.

I'm afraid I don't build warships these days though.

                      Hi Cossacks,

I just weighted HMS Diamond which is 48" long only 9 lbs auw 3lbs of ballast, lead ingots in the bilges twin 400's goes well 😀 Cossack is an easier build than plank on frame as the hull base is 2 sheets of 1/2" balsa sheets just the top sides planked. Diamond took 3 years ! ! But John Haynes fittings help.

                      Regards Rayeaster 2015 210.jpg

                        Hi Ray

Appointments cancelled and will get the plan on order.

Could be persuaded to go to 48" or 1.219 metres as it would have to be here in Spain and in that case it would be all planked.

I have never built a Vic Smeed model although I am a fan and have some of his books. Good time to start then.

                        Tim

Yes when Eddie flys into action ! Watch this space 😀

Any others wishing to have a Go please pipe up ! A sort of self help group for ideas and problem solving.

RCM&E forum has a Hawker Fury build on the go at the moment, worth a a look 😁

Colin if you have a Go you may feel 55 younger ? Deja Vous at least 😉

Will order the plan tomorrow .

Beware the detailed drawing ! The drawings for Diamond from My hobby Store showed loads of bits and bobs, so for that reason I'm sticking with Vic's version of detail, I don't want to spend 3 years on this model. Still have Belfast on the list 😀
