          Hi Andy.
Can you post a picture of the bit of kit that connects to the servo and one of the turret as it is at present on the ship? Then we can better see what the situation is and someone may be able to suggest something.
          Cheers.
          David.

Hi dave yes you got it in one .As my boat is scratch built from a set of plans kindly donated to me from another member of aleander class frigate from a 1970’s show on the BBC . So i made the 1st one and was not happy with the size so i took it to my local copy shop and they blew it up to a ” workable size “!!!!!! . When i went to give it the testing tank ,bath tub, trial i found that the bath was to small !!!!!
So my question is what do i put below the turret to enable it to turn ?????

Yes – I got that message the first time round, Andy. I’ve never built a warship so I wouldn’t presume to offer any advice at first hand. Have a look at Terry Small’s review of the Bismark in MB and see how he did it…….and buy a bigger bathtub.

I suggest, given the likely size of your model (bathtubs usually accommodating a reasonable size boat), a simple gearing  together of the turret, by gears or toothed drive belt/ chain arrangement, all operated by a unit motor/gearbox, switched by a simple back/forwards switch arrangement would be all you need. Or even driving the turret directly. This would give better control thana servo, I think, a more powerful, progressive drive, giving a good purposeful turning moment.

Ashley as always i bow to your better knowledge and expierience BUT having bought this wonderful bit of kit i dont want to waste it esp now my take home wage has been slashed by 50% due to those nice people at the CSA . I wont go into details but lets just say her broomstick touches down at terminal 3 cardiff airport , so beware low flying broomsticks !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Andy. I suggest a brass spindle on the turret, of a suitable diameter to secure underneath on  a…..cog, rudder tiller..or something to connect to an arm and then a servo if this what your gizmo operates,…then have through the deck a suitable brass tube, of the “slide over” variety…and a nylon washer, like a penny washer, to sit the turret on..this keeps it clear of the deck and can be greased with vaseline.

The washer could be a bit of thick plastic bag even, and would be simply to keep the bottom of the turret rubbing on the deck.

This would be cheap, and provide stiffness to prevent any  unrealistic wobbling whilst minimising friction.

                          As an idea?
