Hi Kevin, you might try looking in charity shops for something you can remove the tags from. I don't know of a supplier who has them, but an email to component shop may provide a lead. Good luck.

That Tx has been obsolete for a very long time and you'll be incredibly lucky to find any spare parts in a model shop. I would imagine that Ripmax were the importers. Your options would seem to be either trying to find a dead Tx which you can buy or scrounge for spares (E-Bay and the Model Boat Mayhem forum are good places to try) or replacing the whole battery tray and contact strips with a made-up NiMH pack. This will require a bit of surgery to remove those plastic upstands between the contacts in order to fit the new pack (which will have a wire across each end, under the shrink-wrap). Alternatively Component Shop could make up a pack of 8 x AAA cells which would easily fit loose inside the battery cavity, but you'd need to arrange for a suitable connector to the internal on/off switch. You might also consider that the job isn't worth the price of a new pack.

I have ‘mended’ a badly corroded contact before by:
                – removing from the plastic housing
                – scrubbing clean
                – covering with plumbers acid flux and running solder all over it…

Its a simple fix and I am surprised that my fellow modellers haven't suggested it.

You don't have to take the Tx apart just get hold of a fine grade emery board (such as used by ladies to sharpen their nails) and gently rub the black marks off the tabs. It only takes a couple of minutes and the tabs will be almost as good as new.

If you can't locate an emery board a piece of fine grade wet&dry paper will do the job just as well.

Hi Paul, I didn't mention it because when it tried that I soon ended up with a build up of corrosion again. A little wd40 helped, but not for long. My abrasive cleaning had removed the protective chrome plating. At least 1 tag in Kevin's TX looks to be partly corroded away.

                    Chas.

Ah, Paul, once corroded the tags tend to rust again quite quickly. You can smear them with oil or vaseline, but I find that solder is much more corrosion-resistant…
