Lovely morning. Huge variety of boats on the water.

Peters “indigenous Native American” canoe with two gender free paddlers was the star. So funny, and working so well. Simply great.

Yes well done Peter, bit more clutter on deck will set it off but brilliant and worked so well!

there’s some new pics in my album of the paddle steamer I’m building which now has a name, Unicorn.

The actual ship was built on the Clyde in 1836 so in the ball park era I was aiming for.

Have been fiddling with the BHA German biplane non-flying boat today. It has had several mods to the underwater section, mainly adding and shaping foam, and today I have extended the foam almost to the rear with a long triangle of Styrofoam glued to the underside. Hopefully this will lift the tail a bit and also streamline the rear underwater pe and make it a bit faster.

Similarly, I have added a 4mm Styrofoam layer underneath the A90 Ecranoplan, which should raise it a touch and assist keeping the wingtips off the water. Will see in two weeks time.

The outer starboard engine on the Sunderland was not delivering full power on Sunday making turns difficult at low speeds. Either the motor is knackered (they get wet quite a bit, or one of the wires is loose or woteva. Something else to investigate.

Off to the IOW on Sat, so no boating for me this Sunday.

Just seen a picture of the new Dreadnought ballistic missile subs. Great shape, and interesting…might put one on the list.

Like the swoopy sail, and also like the pump jet style propulsor unit. You can buy some very sexy pump jet impellors, although it would be a shame to hide them under a cowling.

I fancy a vented ballast system if I were to build another sub, as this gives an easy dive system without any pressure worries, and I have a self leveller gizmo…although not sure how well this would work on the X form fins at the stern.

Yes an X fin could cause some interesting manoeuvres on a Model sub, like which two are the rudders and which ones are the dive planes?

I have a spare 27meg set set aside for a sub, always liked the Russian stuff like the Akula or Typhoon. It’s on my bucket list.

                Question for Dave

Another silly question, I have installed an Action Electronics P.29 Fog horn which works perfectly ,can it be adjusted to a whistle ?.

I have received and painted the railway workers (18mm tall) I purchased off eBay and have stuck them on the carrier. A grand total of 12 chaps,

They are of course out of scale but there again the whole thing is to pot, (that's why there are only 12 on deck)BUT they look good I think and add interest to the deck. Nothing like a few crewmen to add interest. I know this is not to everybody's taste but I don't care. Ner. It was in interesting exercise in juggling the sizes of various items to achieve a reasonable look whilst disguising the scale discrepancy. Ships boats are the biggest fudge: Look fine when viewing the boat from the starboard side, but are smaller than the aircraft as seen from the port side! Thing is, you do not see them both together, so the illusion is maintained.

The boat needs a good clean, as it is one of only 4 models NOT in a box (would take up too much room) and thus gets grubby despite being covered in a cloth and usually has a clean before I take it out.

Second lot of men will be stuck on the carpet carrier deck later on, replacing the Airfix men, who are old and keep breaking.

Off to the IOW tomorrow (sat) and will not have any email. Txt`s only for a weel.

                        Hi all,

been in touch with my contact at Kempton steam museum and gave him my E mail but still haven’t heard from him, will track him down like a dog next week.

Unicorn is coming along well, see my album, for the drive I have raided my Lego tecnik box and have cobbled together a drive unit with a differential in between the paddle wheels. Why you ask? This system worked really well in the last paddler I built many moons ago. When turning one paddle wheel wants to go faster and the other needs to go slower, the effect on a fixed shaft is the boat starts to rock back and forth. With a diff it allows the wheels to run a different speeds just like a car, simples!

How long the Lego gears hold up will be interesting but they seem pretty sturdy, after all it’s designed for kids to play with, of all ages!

Will be sailing Sunday weather willing.

Lovely choppy ride over to the island. Shame it didn't last longer. Fab weather.

It is Chestnut Sunday (parade) at Bushy this Sunday so an early arrival should be considered, and off at about 1130-1145 as they close the gates at 1230 for an hour.

Have dug out an extremely large box containing a relatively old project that has not been finished. It is only a motor/control thing that needs fixing.

It has been out once but one side packed up, which was interesting… I have a duplicate set of ESC and wotnot. Its just a matter of an afternoon (preferably a warm one) to get is sorted and take operational pictures.

I did take some at the time and it looked fab on the water.

The main motor was changed a while back and appears to be producing adequate power so I am hopeful of a good result.

Very pleasant outing today. Invincible and T22.

Richard debuted his paddler and very impressive it was too.

Next week some of us will be exhibiting at the Kempton steam museum.

What to take eh?? I favour a bunch of interesting small boats perhaps rather than a couple of large ones. BUT there again big ones catch more attention….gosh…I just don't know!

I think we are likely to fill the cars up and see what's what when we get there?

yes apparently they did a Model boat show last year with a boat pool lumped in with the stationary engine display, so the format is the same only with a slightly bigger pool.

Spent most of morning and afternoon sorting out stands for the boats I will take, as none of them actually have any sort of stand to speak of. I found the Sunderland high stand I used at Sandown however so that's handy, as the boat will sit above some of the others and not take up table space.

A couple just needs supports but the other 30 need something better. Making model seas for them is taking time, and I am a bit worried about the acrylic tanks to show the subs….will they be too heavy once full of water for the trestle tables???

I could always take some small Acrow props in case.

1 cubic foot of water is 64 pounds in old money, a bit over half a hundredweight. How big are your tanks? I worked out a long time ago that if moving a fish tank it was best to empty it first. How's the water leaving at decamp time?

thanks Ray. It’s a much easier way to do it, an airboat…no couplings and shafts, leaks, linings ups and so on.

BUT…is it?? There are hidden pitfalls.

The hobbies plan was free running, but at the likely speed that would be ok. Trevor’s Draganfly, also a vintage plan, had an i/c motor, no r/c an would have been much faster. If such a thing was made..would it survived more than one outing before being smashed to bits or slicing someone’s hand open?
