      The Shelterdeck.

This is the first issue of digital publication The Shelterdeck, published 30th September last. It concerns the history of the merchant navy (all countries), in stories and ship models. This first issue contains my brief CV, an account of a storm at sea in the 1850s, a short history of the Ellerman's cargo liner City of Bombay, and a constructional article, complete with plans, for the diesel tug S. A. Everard.

It is 15 pages in length (5,133 words), and has 21 phpgraphic images and the plans of the S.A. Everard.

Whether this publication continues will really depend on its reception. I do not need any feedback unless you wish to send it, as I can gauge the popularity, or otherwise, by the number of downloads sent out. You will not be bombarded by SPAM, by downloading this document. I will reply to any communications, but will be following a "speak only when spoken to" policy. At the end of the document is a list of downloads that are available for the nominal sums indicated, all between £1.49 for the shorter ones, up to £8 for the comprehensive ones that run into hundreds of pages. The links will all work as long as you are connected to the internet.

So far, it has aroused very little interest. At the time of writing, 5th October, 2016), 39 people have read the synopsis (link below), but only 9 have gone on to download it! This download is Free of Charge!

You can lead a horse to water etc.. It's actually about 26% which doesn't seem too bad to me.

I downloaded it and found it very interesting. I hope there will be more.

It has now gone up to 114 views, 32 downloads! Glad you liked it. Having gone on Facebook a few days ago, and started a group, I am now finding a few others with an interest in merchant ships and models, the latest having produced two models after my own style. Having completed the actual model of the wool clipper today, I am now of a mind to to stop making miniatures. This is not because of lack of outside interest, because collecters love them. It is more because although they are not difficult as far as construction is concerned, I am now finding the intense concentration required when working on very small models is quite wearing, and I feel like I have been kicked in the back. But the moment I stop, and stand up a, I am perfectly OK again! Maybe something to do with posture, but I haven't figured out how to fix the problem.

The statistics for this free download have now gone up to 176 views, followed by 54 downloads, coming to a 30.7% download rate, so it is creeping up. The recent direct feedback that I have had is quite positive, with several modellers discovering (to their absolute amazement) that a new field of maritime interest and shipmodelling has opened up to them!smiley
