With deep regret the Committee of the Model Boat Convention have taken the decision to terminate the Association with the residual proceeds, in accordance with the Constitution being donated to the Royal National Lifeboat Institution.

Attendance at the shows of both traders and modellers had declined over the years and the advent of Covid has led to the winding up of the Model Boat Convention.

May we thank those who competed, those who acted as stewards all the years and those who attended as visitors.

All the very best to you all for the future

A sad reflection of the times but not unexpected. I suspect that the only possible way forward nowadays is for the smaller niche hobbies to get together and present themselves a little more universally. Perhaps model boat shows, and conventions, should become model shows and include all aspects of modelling rather than just one.

If we consider plastic kits, model railway, Scalextric, RC Planes, model engineering, RC Military vehicles etc..etc.. we might just be in with a chance if we widen our horizons.

The Brighton Model Show used to be excellent, all types of modelling including Lego, Dolls Houses, Horse Drawn Carriages and much more in addition to planes, trains and boats. They even had Daleks.

Unfortunately footfall began to fall off with an aging modelling community and was insufficient to covr the costs of the Brighton Centre venue and an alternative could not be found.

I think the smaller February Grange Model Show at Midhurst, Sussex did take place this year. It is usually 40% boats 40% trains and the rest miscellaneous models. Always worth a visit but I was not in a position to go this year.

              Hi All,

Yes Brighton was a great show, I went for many years, Even the London Model Engineering Exhibition at Ally Pally is shadow of it's former self

Model Railways still have a good following with many shows around the country, but online shopping has probably contributed to the shows loosing popularity + Covid people are creatures of habit, once you stop a routine it's hard to go back to it

              Regards Ray
