I know technicaly itsa not floating !!!! BUT the help i need is in the general fitting out of the control gear and how to put it in without compromising the look of the boat or it's water tightness ( if there is such a word ) .I understand the general principles of it and the mechanics of it but how do i put in all the r/c gear ?????

          Hi Andy

Just to clarify do you intend to submerge this model or restrict its operations to the surface and sail it like a boat?

Save yourself a lot of aggro, Andy……And make it a dynamic diver?

              Bob,

Forgive this question if its daft. Is dynamic diving where you trim the sub so that it will submerge due to the forward movement and the twisting of those horizontal rudder/ flaps on the sides of the sub. If you centralize the flaps and or reduce speed, the sub will tend to return to the surface?

I know technicaly itsa not floating…

Technically, so long as it's not resting on the bottom, it's floating…

                  Hello Phil H

That's right…….The floatation is set on the point of sinking …..The forward motion and downward pointing hydro vanes…….The sub……submerges

                  To surface……Just slow down

                  Bob

Andy. If you make it a dynamic diver there is not much gear to put in; 1x ESC, 2x servo, receiver, battery…

My Oberon manages quite well diving in a straight line with fixed forward dive planes, sufficient to go under to prove that it can do so and be a real sub.

I suggest having a surf for Gato conversions, most of which will be static divers, and see how they managed to seal in the radio gear, ignoring the diving stuff.

I had an Oberon thread a while ago, see also my album for the mechanicals wot I used.

                    DG. Well observed !

                      Hi Andy

                      Thanks for the pm.

As a surface only craft it should be fairly easy to make it watertight and convert into RC.

in theory if the internal equipment (batteries, motor, rc, etc) are small enough and laid out along the length of the model it should solve trim and ballast problems.

As I'm not a sub builder it would help if you could post some photos of the model alongside a ruler then I can get a better grasp of its true size.

                          Hi Malcolm

I didn't realise that the model was that long so theoretically there shouldn't be a problem with an RC conversion.

Perhaps I should qualify my comments by admitting that I haven't converted a plastic kit since the early 1970s.

I'm assuming a 1:72 version, but then, I don't know if Revell do a smaller one. It isn't unknown.
