Hi All , Having just bought my Action P100 sound unit i would like advice with were to locate the receiver and the P100 unit in the hull, The rather large speaker that goes with it has quite a large magnet and i would not like it to interfear with the performance of the P110 or the receiver . I am fixed as to were to locate the speaker to get the best performance from it which is right above the area i intended to put the receiver and P100 would this be a issue.

      Best Regards Daveyes

I very much doubt it. Don't forget to mount the speaker on a baffle board (6mm ply plate) and to box in the back of it. This will prevent the air from the front of the speaker cone interfering with the air from the front and effectively cancelling out the sound. You also need to arrange for the sound to leave the hull via open vents e.g. funnels, open hatches, grilles.

The magnetism of the speaker will have zero effect on radio signals. However if the metal of the speaker is in the way of the radio signal the signal might get blocked at certain angles – 2.4GHz is very susceptible to this kind of thing being a very short wavelength, having a very short aerial which can easily be hidden.

Too close to a relay the stray magnetic field "might" upset the relay release ability since relays do use magnetism to operate and hold, but this is very unlikely.

What Dave said about mounting the speaker – there should be no direct air path between front and rear and there should be a clear path to the outside world else you won't hear it with the boats lid on. To keep water away from a paper cone, take a look at booking office/cashier technology, have a sheet of very thin polythene between the speaker and the rest of the world. Left loose, it is totally transparent to sound, but stops water.
