I shall probably be up in the Norfolk Broads at the end of this week so I will look for a similar prototype.

          Hello Ashley

I thought about card myself, but there is a big risk of cockling?

Plasticard may be OK but don`t like the idea myself

It seems that 1.5mm ply is the right stuff

The morning after the night before!

More fun for Bob!………Trimmimg the roof!

What could be nicer than a super sharpened quality plane, just waiting to skim down those crisp solid edges of the roof?………Followed by a nice clean up with the sanding block?

            roof trim.jpg

Let me get at it………..Lambs to the slaughter!………Whoopee!

            er……………What`s that?

A cry from the kitchen………."Your breakfast is going cold!"

            Back soon………..Bob

Need a drawing showing roof cut out in the Cockpit area, please

Take a look at Peter Fitness`s pictures for his version and also his clolour scheme for inspiration

Ians Silver Mist has a great colour scheme.

The ivory and brick red look great with varnish.

Welcome to the forum Mr X

                  Nice model and colour scheme

Have you started your model yet?

At the moment, it's very difficult to decide on a colour scheme, I'm hoping that Colin's trip to the Broads might come up with something inspiring?

                    Hello Bob

Ian has made some lovely boats with great colour schemes and they are well worth looking at.

The build of the SeaSpray is coming along very well.

                              Shop floor to top floor

The cockpit roof is drawn parallel…..How about tapering it towards the stern?

Also, it is shown in the raised position, but the legs are leaning back and won`t stay in that position automatically

I think they should be leaning forward in the raised position?

Can you show the canopy in the folded back position please

It is essential to fit the coaming before building the cabin as the design calls for a fairly tight fit

This cross section shows the relationship between the coaming (shown in green), cabin sides and cockpit floor.

                                ellie section a.jpg

                                section detail.jpg

The cross section also shows the importance of the cockpit bulkheads in setting the shape of the cabin walls and roof.

This drawing is the longitudinal section and shows the location of the cockpit bulkheads and floor (shown in red)

As I see my name being taken in vain on the thread may I thank Mr X for his kind words.

Regarding colour schemes Bob, I have spent over twenty years holidaying in the Broads ( I know!) and know these types of boats. I don't think I have ever seen one with a planked deck- much more likely to have a light brown linoleum type of covering. The hulls are generally white, cream, or bright finished, and the upperworks bright. Perhaps not as exciting as you'd like!

I'm afraid the colour scheme is always the first thing I plan with a boat.

Martham Boats still hire out some wooden cruisers and it might be worth having a look.

I can never remember how to do a link but here goes…

                                      The link works OK

They all seem to have white hulls and varnished wood uppers

I suppose the deck and roofs could be plastic chequer plate painted an old fashioned green, with a cream hull and varnished cabin sides……and a few green stripes

                                      Not forgetting….pink curtains?

And don't forget the mudweight! There's a picture of it on the Golden Dawn site- basically a large lump of metal on the end of a rope that sinks in the copious mud at the bottom of the Broads and acts as an anchor. Always nice to bring up again covered in stinky mud and weed!

                                        Definitely pink curtains.

I made five identical ribs from 5mm ply at the same time and adjusted them to suit the tapering outer side strips

Note Paul. I`ve added a central spine, for a bit of rigidity at the sanding stage

                                              Hello Captain Bob

I have to admit that I didn't think that a central spine would be needed but if in your expert opinion you consider it better to have one then I will include it in the drawings.

I see from the latest photo that you are demonstrating how to use the drawings as templates, as they say a picture is worth a thousand words and I am very grateful that you have taken the time to show the less experienced builders how the drawing/template system works.
