Hi, I'm currently building a model boat which is big enough to fit a small camera inside when it is all closed up with the cabin fitted on top. I don't mean for the camera to stay inside and take photos when it's sailing, nothing like that, but just to take photos with a camera and a remote shutter switch held by me. I like taking photo of interiors of scale model boats and which could be mistaken for the interior of a real life-size boat. I don't mean to use such photos to fool or mislead anybody else, I just want them for my own satisfaction and to impress friends. I have been able to take photos of the interior of some of my larger model boats when the cab or superstructure is off as it enables access, but not when they are fitted in place because I don't have a small enough camera nor the remote control to fit through a convenient narrow passageway or hole. Can anyone suggest suitable equipment please?

How about one of the cheapy chinese endoscope thingys from ebay. About as fat as a pencil 1 1/2" long used with a laptop .I've done that with "print screen"  then pasted into and saved as a word doc. I presume there is a way to save it as a jpeg.

One of the challenges with the really small cameras is picture quality. I have one of the endoscope type cameras for looking inside boilers and while it is good enough to have a look at the internal surfaces and the silver soldering the quality of the picture is pretty grim. That connects to my laptop and I would have to do a screen capture from the live feed to get a picture. You might get a better picture with really good lighting and they are really cheap so you can have fun playing with them. They might have improved a lot since i bought mine as well.

I have recently been playing around with one of the small cube type Go-Pro cameras and again for video not brilliant pictures but they can also be used for single pictures and can be operated remotely by a control unit, available separately, or via an app on your smart phone. I haven't done this but it might be what you are looking for. The type of Go-Pro you want is the Go-Pro Hero Session. No longer made but available second hand and in good condition if you search. They measure up at around 3.5cm cube so about the smallest reasonable quality camera out there.

Have you looked at miniature cameras, either web cams or wifi types or even usb ones.

              They are not expensive.

Thanks guys, I'll look into these types of small cameras, see what i can find and which I prefer. I'll let you know in due time, and hopefully share photos I will have taken.
