As I am retired I was looking to find something to keep my hands and mind occupied Rolling Eyes
So I purchased this model and it was built over the winter period.
Still one or two small things to add as yet but slowly getting there.

Thanks guys. The electrics were the worse part as I know zilch about them, so I plumped to install the Action gear from Dave, as there was an installation drawing on his site.

This is a shot of the electrics temporarily layed out, the motors have been changed to 700BB turbos 9.6v

Hi Matt, great looking build. I’ve been doing some calculations for Ian Potts’s build and am interested in the performance of your boat on the pond. Did you use the 40mm props recommended by Model Slipway, or something else? How does it run on the water? Do the motors get hot? How long do the batteries last?

                  Best regards, Mark

                    Hi Mark.
I have not installed the recommended motors but installed Graupner 700BB Turbos instead. I found that the 40mm props overheated the motors even with water cooling. I am still experimenting with different props and have upped the batteries to two 12v 5000mah nimh packs in parallel. Have not had the boat on the water long enough to see how long the packs last. Hope that helps.

                      Hi Matt,

I take it your motors are still the 700 BB 9.6V ones. The spreadsheet I have shows your motors to be trying to drive the boat at 50 knots scale speed, which the hull is not designed for, so the motors are probably operating on the wrong side of the power curve and cooking.

The 700 BB 12V motors have a lower speed than the 9.6V ones, so if you were to switch to those at 12V with 40mm props you should be back close to the design conditions, but with cooler motors than the Speed 600 Ecos. Using these with 35mm props would be even cooler and longer lasting, still at a respectable 28 knots scale.

Alternatively, if you keep the 700 BB 9.6V motors, going back to 9.6V packs and switching to 30mm standard pitch props should get you 30 knots scale speed which would be quite manageable.

I guess it all depends on what you want – a good scale speed with long battery life, or impressive haring around the pond on the plane for a shorter time.

                        Hi Mark,
Thanks so much for that information it has been so useful, I’m looking for short bursts of on the plane with scale speed for most of the time.
Duration is not so important as I have plenty of spare packs.
I have just received a pair of 30mm standard three blade brass props and will let you know what happens with them.
