Great issue this month for Forum members. Ray’s Lysander free plan, Chris Fellows’ article on Fairey power Boats plus the Fisherman yacht, Richard’s Boiler Room contribution and Mick East in Readers letters.

Plus lots of other interesting material.

And a Model Boats first from Grahame Chambers our CAD guru, a cutaway view of my Lysander this is his first one for a boat he’s done, congratulations to him , he has been doing cutaways for RCM&E aeroplanes for many years.

Still waiting, post rubbish in the sticks.  We get nothing for days and then a big pile all of a sudden.  They sit on things, which I always thought was supposed to be illegal.

                    Hi Richard

It helps double the circulation 🙂

I actually will buy 3 this time, one copy to Tim Rowe in Mallorca how kindly made the Lysander sails, he is also about to start refurbishing a 2 1/2″ gauge LBSC Dyak made by his grandfather .

I have a Sweet Pea to work on finishing over the winter !!

I do have the occasional enquiry for the free plans after the magazine is long gone .

                    Regards Ray

In Lindsey’s editorial bit in this months magazine she says that 20 years ago you did plans for Margoletta. Grandson is a big fan of Arthur Ransome (as I was), I feel a winter project coming on. Are those plans still available anywhere please?

                      Thanks

Got my copy.  Great contributions guys, I agree the cutaway picture of the Lysander is a superb presentation.  Great job Ray.  And while I have never really got into Faireys Chris’s article is a great read and a couple of superb drawings to boot.

                            Hi Stephen,

I’m a big fan of the Authur Ransome’s books from an age of innocents between the wars when children could learn by experience , If they had well heeled parents 🙂 there are 10 books in the Swallows and Amazons series Coot Club and Big Six both based on the Norfolk Broads.

I could post the build pictures from the Margoletta article, as it was pre digital cameras and was a right pain 🙂

                              Ray,

I republished your Margoletta article in my 2011 Construction Special Issue. This entailed scanning in all the images from the original article and using Optical Character reading software to capture the text in an editable form, The images came out very well but the OCR in those days was a pain – much easier now.

Anyway, I still have all the files on my PC and I should be able to use them to recreate the article as a ‘Feature’ on here as long I can remember how to do it, it is a bit tricky in WordPress. I did a couple for Richard re the Steam Regs a while back so I know it is possible.

I will have a look at it.

                              Colin

My IT skills are limited , unless my grandchildren are here 🙂

Having used a computer for 30 years to make a living you would think I’d learn something about them ! but it was a means to an end , give me a sheet of balsa and a knife I know how that works 🙂

Brilliant article by Chris this month , I’m worried I may have to build a Fairey now 🙁

Thanks for your kind words chaps. You do have form, that is for building a Fairey Ray!

At the club many of us have mugs, which along with the club name have our name or nickname etc. Mine is Fairey Fan. I had to double check with the secretary when he was ordering them that it had the correct spelling!

I have managed to add Margoletta to the Features section. It is a bit rough and ready, just the text and then the photos but it does the job!

Thanks for all the interest in the Margoletta. After asking about the plans last night I had a look on Ebay and found a seller who has from 1991 to 2016 and you can buy any issue (except the 8 already sold) at £3-29 +£2-70 post. Seemed like a bargain to me so June 2005 is on its way.

Thankyou Colin for putting it on Features, I shall have a look.

Why not just buy it from Sarik, at £12.15 + postage it isn’t going to break the bank as a proportion of the cost of materials and fitting out the model.

Absolutely Colin, but having found the MB issue with the plan & the article as well that you kindly put on features I bought that. If I hadn’t, I’d have gone to Sarik. Now I don’t need to use the laptop to refer to the article.
