RC all working well, when i heel her over to check stability under sail, she bounced back up after being on her beam end, but water did get in through the rudder post opening in the deck, plus some around the mast (which will be removable).

            Hello Brian

Nice to see her afloat at long last………The sails will dampen down most of that bobbing about

            Any water getting in?

            Bob

Cheers Bob, only 18 months since I started! There were no leaks through the hull, but when I tilted her over on beam end to test the balance of the keel, the water on the deck got through around the rudder post. I might have to redesign that if I want to sail her in rough weather.

                  Hello Brian

Just letting you know, that I used bed sheet material for my sails

Take a look at the sheets on your own bed and feel the texture and the weave etc

We got our material off a market stall and they were just right

Luckily, my wife was a sewing machinist and did a fine job

Rope edging is a nice touch, but be aware that the rope is not edge on the the cloth, but on the side of the material

This helps the mariner to know which way round the sails are…….In the dark!

                  All the best

                  Bob

Snow and hail kept me indoors yesterday, hunched over the sewing machine…. just a bit of painting details to do now. Waiting for a nicer day to carryout sailing trials.

Congratulations, Brian! That is a very pretty looking model!

Here's hoping for an early improvement of the weather and a succesful maiden sail!

                            Hello Brian

My first sail with the Louis Heloise was in the depth of winter and we had to break the ice first!

With no sails, the motor auxiliary came in handy

                            Your sails look nice btw

                            Bob

The wind looks a bit erratic today?

Did you find the motor drive useful?

Cheers Bob, this was at Yeadon Tarn, the wind was light early on then started gusting a bit, the motor was essential to help her to tack in light winds.

                                      Hello Brian

The rudder would look nice with the back edge rounded off?

                                      And painted black?

                                      Just a suggestion

Fairly sure that on most boats, the lower edge of the rudder does not go below the line of the keel. If for no other reason, just to stop it being the first thing to be damaged by grounding in shallow water. Looks like it was designed for a vertical rudder post.

Looking good Steve, I struggled with the stern section, I had to add a box around the tiller / rudder post to allow room for the electronic steering gear.

Yes it was a struggle, as this part is not shown on the plan… but after a lot of design work, I felt this looked better, hope I can get the rudder tightened. Just a slight hold up is I have lost the plan to finish the boat, had a tidy up, and now can't find two sheets, I've got the plan view sheet, may have to buy new one
