If fitted in line between s controller and battery as designed does it matter if the alarm is measuring the total voltage as apposed to individual cell voltage on a 3s lipo? Or is their sumut I’m not getting?

Robin. Low voltage alarms are v v cheap, and plug into the battery monitoring plug. They monitor each cell so you know when the voltage drops beyond the safe limit (3.3V or woteva).

Lipo`s need each cell to be monitored, it is not sufficient to have an overall low voltage alarm, as damage may be done to a cell if the voltage drops too much.

Indeed, just saw in line low voltage alarms for 2-6s lipos on the ‘component shop’ Web site and was wondering if I’d missed sumut. 😁

If you use Lipo`s in the boat you really must have an individual cell-type voltage monitoring device to stop permanent damage to the battery from over discharge.

What Ashley is saying is that the in line type alarms as listed on Component Shop website can only measure total voltage of the battery (and may well duplicate a programmable function of the speed controller depending on which one you have).

So you need a monitor that plugs into the LiPo balancing lead such as this one:
