A ship recently docked in  CapeTown  -her name made me really chuckle!  Unfortunately I didn’t have a camera with me and she sailed a couple of hours later.

Her name:  “Titan Uranus”, registered in Manila.
Anyone else come across really funny ship’s names?
      Cheers – Pierre

I still like to imagine the reaction to sailors on a run ashore from HMS Pansy or HMS Spanker!

Rick, thats very true, but in mitigation, during the war at least the Pansies or whatever only had “H M S ” on their cap tallies !    Ashley

And how did the Itralians fit “Luigi di Savola duca degli Abruzzi” on the cap tally of their 1937 “Abruzzi” class cruiser !!!!

I do recall a yacht that I saw on the boat park at Laxey harbour that had a very funny name based upon a certain male organ.

I cant write it down as it might upset our more tender members and I don’t know how the boats owners got away with it but it must have given the local coast guard a wry smile whenever the captain used the radio.

Ashley, I understand that the Italian crew of  “Luigi di Savola duca degli Abruzzi” were specially selected from seamen with a cap size in excess of seven and a half – or whatever the metric equivalent is!

Yo dude!  like it.    ts a good job the “victory” was named as such, Imagine it was called the “no offence” or something politically correct.

Some years ago I worked with a Sales Manager who was a delightful Frenchwoman. One day she said to me “How terrible it was, that the Eurostar left for France from a station called Waterloo”. I agreed with her, and suggested we rename it – Agincourt,  Crecy or Poitiers, for example.

Last night I tried thinking of a country or group of people that we (the English) had not invaded, gone to war with, erased from existance or just pis*ed off.
And apart from some lost tribes in the Amazon I can’t think of anybody.

This is why we needed such a large navy with big guns (after all those spears can be quite sharp)
