      Hi all,

I ordered an outboard motor from Hobbyking .co.uk and now find that they claim it can take 45 days to arrive! We find it was despatched from their warehouse on the 23rd June. BUT….where is that warehouse??? It was after all .co.uk and priced in GBP as they call our Earth Pounds.

Can anyone who has bought from them before shed any light on the comings and goings of Messrs Hobbyking's .co.uk goodies.??

And yes, Dave, the o/b WILL need a brushless motor (I ordered without until the boat's finished) and I guess yes, I WILL have to learn about ESCs and LiPos. That's how much I like 152VO boats! I have a "student" for making model boats who is going to check me out on all things lecktrickery, from motor to charger. A fair deal I hope.

But I need this bloomin' o/b to arrive so I can make a decent period cover for it, a gorgeous Godiva 40 with a lovely Coventry Climax FWM inside, an engine I know very well (I put one in an Austin Seven Special!).

I love the big Tower of Power Mercurys, but alas so does everyone else! Gotta be different.

      Cheers,

      Martin

          Hi there,

Unless it is coming from the UK warehouse which does say on checkout as you can pick the same motor from several different warehouses sounds like you picked china or Australia That is one thing you have to double check when ordering from HK in maybe in GBP but you have to select a specific warehouse..By the way what engine did your order?

Hi Mark. Same issue with them ,but order came through from Slough I seem to remember. If I remember the item arrived after 7 days

However I found them to be impossible to contact direct. They gave me a contact method which failed on 4 occasions , Using the company internet at Hobbyking and was met with (I don't know as I am not qualified to answer your question .

Gave up and followed up my dealings with another company who stocked the item I required .Sorry to be the bearer of bad news .sad Michael

I ordered the CNC one, which looks a lot more like a real outboard than the long tailed flexi shaft one. This is flexi, but housed in a more restrained looking leg.

At the time, my wife, who does the money stuff, read out 6- 10 days. Now it's saying 45, which is way too much even for an American warehouse, especially for "International Registered" post.

Oh, be sure if they don't supply, I'll find a way in to them! I don't know some useful people for no reason!

But I'd rather just know where it's coming from. It does say it's shipped, which is something, but it looks like it's coming from America as dollars are mentioned. My wife doesn't recall being asked to specify a warehouse.

I shall certainly not deal with them again. I'm sure there are other cheapo suppliers!

                Cheers,

                Martin

I've used HK quite a few times, never had a problem with them.

You select which warehouse you want in the top L/H corner above the list of item types (batteries, motors etc.), if you select 'International', it will come from China – U.S. or Australia, but you can select either U.K. or Europe warehouses.

I tend to use the Europe one as it's much cheaper (postage from Belgium is dirt cheap), the U.K. one is a ripoff on postage (they use UPS), it takes a little longer from Europe, but not over long like the International.

It seems that my wife must have either selected none or America without realising it. But I think it was reasonable to assume that a website called Hobbyking.co.uk, pricing in pounds, might actually be a UK warehouse.

The site automatically defaults to 'International', the currency shown is selected in the top bar of icons.

I find it best policy never to assume anything when shopping on the internet.

The currency was already there in pounds without selection as such. Trouble is, I'm not used to doing the "my basket" stuff and my wife isn't used to sites like that! I guess I'll just have to wait till it arrives. I see the price is already higher than it was pre Brexit<G>

And we haven't actually Brexited yet. I wonder if petrol prices will go up next week.

Probably, but it wasn't long ago that we had petrol at 1-40 round here. Recently it was under a pound, now it's back up to 1-11.

And right on cue, it arrives! And very, very nice it is too. Comes with an Allen key and a syringe of lubricating grease.

I haven't taken the lid off yet, but there are three wires coming out of it with 3.5mm gold connectors, but it's supposed to be the version with no motor inside!

                              Curiouser and curiouser.

But I'm a happy bunny now it's arrived. Nice dog drive for the prop too.

The wires end in female gold connectors inside the cover and the water cooling outlet is ready to connect inside, but there's no where for the water inlet! There's not what I would regard as an anti-cavitation plate of any degree of meat, so I shall make one and incorporate a water pick-up into it.

                                So far, so good.

Astonishingly, the cover and mid section are moulded in crazilly thin GRP! A very nifty job!
