It's so nice to be able to help out from time to time.

Admin, just waiting for sae to arrive to send sea rider plan A3 sheets, nice to be asked and glad to help.

Sea Commander plans request progressing all be it a bit slowly…

Sirs, I need some advice please.

Sea Commander and Enya 15 TV RC marine engine.

The Enya has a deflector type piston, so loop scavenged and an older model.

I may be able to find revs and horsepower etc..

The sea Commander will accommodate a 40mm propellor, but at what pitch please ?

Probably a smaller diameter would help but again at what pitch please ?

I know some people would have electric propulsion.

What size and pitch do you use please, what battery and how many watts does the motor draw ?

I know for the performance desired it's a little like a black art of marrying boat, prop, motor etc., But any advise would be gratefully received.

      Thanks in advance, rich.

Heard about propshop from on here, will be asking if them, they do lots of other stuff as well, much needed ba nuts and bolts etc..

But disapointed no feedback about prop advise even from electric guys…

The issue here Rich is that if ten of us advise on what to fit, out would have ten different sets of setups. No one setup will be right, some will be better than others, some will be cheaper/more expensive.

An X series prop will propel almost anything and at a good efficiency for faster boats.

As to an electric motor, if you can find out the revs and power of an Enya motor, then converting that to a brushless will be easy. You just need to decide what battery you want,…..Nimh or Lipo, and the choice here is how fast or portability across to other models. A 2s Lipo can replace a 6 cell Nimh, a 3s is 12v, a 4s not much use for anything other than a specific model. I am talking generalities here.

Once the voltage is decided, then the Kv can be worked out. We use almost exclusively 28mm motors here, and they comfortably power x40 props on 3s for 120 to 160 watts depending on make. That’s a fair whack, unless your boat is particularly heavy.

The main consideration for gas/electric is finding somewhere to run I/c…not many places allow.

Rich – as Ashley says, more than one way to skin a cat but here's my take on it. A 34" Sea Commander is about the same size, weight and style as my 33" Fairey Swordsman and planing performance is required which means about 10k. rpm loaded.

I haven't run my boat yet (no laughing at the back!) but after a lot of reading on forums etc. chose an Overlander 4250/06 800kv. which on 4s/14.8v will rev at 11840 rpm. A lower kv provides more torque for a heavier model and a kv of between say 800 to 1200 or thereabouts is fine. I've oversized my motor as I don't want to use water cooling, a 35mm dia. motor will also provide enough power given the performance of brushless motors. I know Harry is a big fan of Turnigy 3648 1450kv on 3S/4S.

I see from Cornwall Model Boats that a 40mm 2 blade prop is recommended but from the Frequently Bought Together see that the brass Raboesch 3 blade 40mm prop is listed. I've got the same but from Prop Shop, being their Scale Prop.

Again as Ashley says, finding somewhere to run IC is very difficult.

Thanks for the replies guys, much appreciated.

Yes, a bit of a black art and lots to consider and contemplate. Will digest info later.

Tony will also appreciated the info I am sure, as will anyone reading the thread. That's the beauty of internet forums, potentially the whole world can read this.

                Thanks again, rich.

                  hi there Rich

Sorry I am 'late at the table' as the saying goes.

It has taken me quite a bit to find the information about the Enya engine. If you download the document, you will be able to expand it and read it better, I think.

As has been said beforehand, the main drawback about using I.C. engines in model boats these days – is finding a lake which will facilitate them (without any complainers) if you know what I mean.

To be honest with you, I have found that there is more spillage/oil slick from the stern tube on the model than there is from the exhaust on the model.

                  Good luck.

                  John

Oh thanks John, I will print that off next time I am in the library. My computer/internet stuff is extremely basic and will not interconnect. I will ask send to sosam on Cox engine forum who is an Enya fanatic.

                    Thanks again, much appreciated.
